Hi there,
A colleague who had educational contacts in China was asking me if it's possible to access SL from that country. It's not something I'd ever heard/thought about, so couldn't really answer. I imagine that he thought there may be some sort of 'censorship' on access to SL. He's looking into creating an educational knowledge transfer between the UK and China via SL.

I've found some info on SL in Chinese in the Forums, and this site: http://www.secondlifechina.cn - which of course is all in Chinese so not much help ;)

Does anyone have any definitive knowledge on this topic?

Thanks,

Duder

I'm in Taiwan (Republic of China), and since I'm in the same time zone, I often see folks from the Mainland in Second Life.

Yes, it's possible. Not sure if it is legal.

It's Teh Sex, ya see. They're agin' it.

However, there are a lot of Chinese players from the mainland.

One of my best SL friends is in China, connection is sometimes a bit iffy, but generally has no problems.

I struck up an acquaintanceship with a fellow in Beijing, but haven't heard from or seen him in a while, so as far as I know, yes -- it happens.

Access seems somewhat restricted, though, to the technorati (academics and so on).

I have work colleagues in both Taiwan and China and they have no problems logging into SL. Not sure if SL is illegal in the ROC, they are not aware of it and some have been playing a long time.
