I just bought my first 512 parcel of land, after looking for a long time. It is beautiful, on top of a misty mountain. I put a Japanese house and campfire on it, and nice trees and plants. I wanted it to be a quiet, peaceful retreat.....Now down below my place someone has put a searchlight. The searchlight sweeps past constantly, bleaching out everything in sight. It even goes thru the walls when the doors and windows are closed. I cannot escape the thing. I sent an IM to the owner of the searchlight, and have received no response, I sent a help request, no response... My question is, could this object be considered as "disturbing the peace?" It's certainly disturbing mine. Does anyone else have this problem? I would appreciate any suggestions, short of moving...I love the spot. Thanks!

If it's extending over your boundary line and the owner refuses to acknowledge or deal with it, then you can abuse report them. And then cross your fingers.

Is it just the light coming through or an actual lighted prim (made to look like a light beam) coming through. If is an actual prim, then you can report that.
If it just the light from the prim, is there anything that can be done about that? I had a neighbor that had an annoying multi-color light particle emitting object that would change the color of the inside of my walls. I tried putting up multiple walls, but it didn't seem to block it. Light doesn't seem to stick to the laws of RL physics in SL.

It would have to be a prim beam. There is no way to focus light into a beam in SL, except by making a glowing phantom prim. Keep trying to contact the owner, and if they don't reply, I'd abuse report them daily, until something is done about it.
And no, light isn't blocked by 'solid' objects in SL, and neither are phantom prims like that light beam.
Right click the beam and select edit, and you'll lock it in place a moment. Then you can see who owns the prim. Most likely it is the land owner who owns the land it is based on.
It is a TOS Violation to create prims on your land that deliberately overhand other people's property and cause proiblems.

A question for an answer

If you set the land options to deny object entry, would that stop a phantom prim?

From: Ylikone Obscure If is an actual prim, then you can report that. 100% true but the owner may not realize they're in your space, Eli. Send them a polite IM before filing an abuse report. It may fix the problem far more quickly than an AR will. If they're jerks about it, include the IM log in your AR to show the Lindens that you tried to resolve the issue yourself before contacting them.

Something that keeps passing through your property aint proper. Whether its a tree that keeps blowing through a wall of your house from next door, or a searchlight. Talk to the neighbor in question and resolve the issue. Neighbor refuses to comply for whatever trivial reason, write em up.

I was once creating a Very nice Building, when it was almost finished, my neighbor Built a Building close to the Property Line (Not really a problem, as they were smallis lots, and everyone built to the Property Line) and added an arboritum in his Home with the Effect that his tree kept Blowing through the wall of my Building. I sent him a Polite Note, and i saked Only could he Move the tree 1.5 meters to one side. He was on every few days, so i had to wait a couple of days, But he responded VERY politely, and Apologized, and Moved the tree at once. Courtesy, and Patience Do work sometimes, that is why i always try them First.

Thanks everyone, problem resolved!

Well thanks for all of your responses, appreciated. Someone told me to go to client, click rendering, and click clouds. It solved the problem, I am very pleased. I now don't know if it was just the clouds, or the searchlight bouncing off the clouds, if any one else has a similar problem, you could try what I did. Cheers!
