Quicksand!!!

My parcel is chronically afflicted with quicksand ... AVs are walking along normally, then suddenly sink beneath the surface.

When this happens, the AV movement controls stop working.

Sometimes the AV comes to rest inside the parcel, sometimes outside and sometimes SL logs the AV off.

What's thye cause? What's the cure?

Lag, plain and simple. It's pretty startling when it happens the first time, but it doesn't mean anything is wrong with your land or anything. Just lay off any frantic button mashing/mouse clicking until the avatar reappears at their sink-start point

If your parcel is in a sim corner/side, it might be also the downward push effect of sim crossing too.

I think if it's an area where there's a lot of scripts/huge textures/complex geometry things can go south in a hurry.
