Just when I thought I'd left the noobie stage, I find myself confused. I could swear that when I first came inworld, I could see the number of prims in an object for sale by clicking on Edit. Since I wasn't the owner and/or creator, I couldn't actually DO anything, but I could check the prim count to make sure I could afford to put the build on my small property.
But over the last week, when I went on a shopping spree for new building materials and furnishings, I tried to check prim counts with this method and nothing shows. The entire General tab is blank, without showing any information.
So, have I accidentally disabled some Preferences that would allow me to see this (I've downloaded SL to a new computer recently) or has one of the recent updates changed this feature? Or did I just hallucinate that I could ever do this?

I do it all the time myself, so you're not crazy. If the information isn't there, it's probably specific to that object. Try another store, and I bet it comes back.
(I hope someone with more tech knowledge comes along soon, as I'd like the answer to this as well).

Actually, it's probably lag. This happens to me a lot when checking my own profile: initially it's empty, so I just wait a minute and the data downloads.

This also happens when you have "Select only my objects" checked off in the "Tools" menu. Check there to make sure you haven't selected that option.

Also, even if you have "select only mine" selected, if you have an edit window open, with the first tab showing, and right click the object, it will show while you have the mouse button down.
I prefer to leave "select only mine" on because I build a lot and am always selecting someone elses prims with mine. Now I only turn it off when I'm editing my partner's objects.

If it wasn't for the 'processing' screen announcement , I'd have been driven crazier.

That's probably the answer. I DID change that setting not too long ago when building and never realized the implications for later. Thanks! This has been driving me CRAZY for days.
