If you find an exploit and can reproduce it please do not post step by step instructions in the forums. All you are doing is telling others how to use the exploit for thier own gain and the content creators loss. I just had to contact a linden and get 2 such posts removed. Please folks lets not help crooks commit thier crimes.

Posting exploits can result in account suspension or other penalty. Even repeating the words someone else used to describe an exploit in the same thread, in the form of a question, or a statement to the effect that the procedure described doesn't work, not providing any new information at all, can result in the same penalties. There is a procedure to follow in the event of discovering an exploit. One section of the knowledgebase describes the procedure as: From: someone We takes possible exploits very seriously. Instead of telling everyone about a possible exploit in the forums or inworld, hunt down an officer of Bug Hunters and tell them about the bug. Exploits are bugs that could be used to get an advantage over others, unauthorized access to scripts, unauthorized copying, transferring or modifying of objects that you didn't create (also called 'permissions' bugs) and other bugs that could potentially cause a comprimise of the grid or a resident's privacy. Please also report the bug using the inworld Help > Report Bug feature in addition to hunting down a Linden so we have it documented internally.
Brent Linden in a forum post had this to say about how to report an exploit: From: someone Discussing exploits is a great way to get your stuff stolen. Don't want your stuff stolen? Don't discuss exploits!
Please bug report them with "EXPLOIT" in the title and then IM a Liaison or Bug Hunter with the RT number you receive in your email. Explain it's an exploit and that QA needs to know about it *now*. The Linden will email us and we'll get on it ASAP.
If that's not fast enough for you, IM Brent Linden. My IM's go to my phone and I'm very willing to jump on bugs like this for you.
Please, to protect your creations and your fellow residents' creations, do not discuss exploits. You're only hurting yourselves when you do!
All that said, this bug has been entered (thank you to all who did bug report it) today and I am lobbying to get it escalated. However, I can't promise a fix time frame. Please know that we do consider this a serious issue, but we do not want to run the risk of releasing code that has not been properly tested. There are some comments about the exploit reporting system at http://blog.secondlife.com/2006/08/14/when-an-exploit-isnt-an-exploit .

Forums are a wonderful area to vent, as in...now? BUT I can NOT believe someone put the how-to's of a grid attack on here.
Great move NOT.

I would just like to know if the EXPLOIT the game is down for now is the same one. Its been more than 12 hours between when sis got the first post removed and the time the grid went down. Don't know if that bothers anyone else but it does me.

Will someone please say what is going on? There is no official explanation of why the grid is down this time - I switched my PC on after it was down.

There is an exploit in the permissions of objects. They took the grid down to fix it. I can't give more detail than that without risking suspension. Yes they have come down that hard on others before.

I have an exploit!!!111oneone and it will bring the entire grid down.!!!!
Here is how to do it.
1. Goto San Fransisco 2. Locate 1100 Sansome Street 3. Feed Torley the security guard a melon to gain access 4. Locate the third floor and avoid Spike the Newbie Linden wandering aimlessly and lost. 5. Look for room 313 and enter it 6. You will be faced with Profoky Neva, secret spy of Linden Labs. 7. Threaten to expose her to the public and she will give you the keys to the basement. 8. Make your way to the basement. 9. Locate the computer running the Second Life server software (To find it, look for a 386 running Windows 3.1 and a 14.4k modem...) 10. Use your super hacking techniques to shut down the server....or just unplug the thing. 11. Escape fast before they discover the problem (8-10 days)
I post this for the security of Second Life
Goodnight and Godbless Jenns x
