Just curious if anyone else has had this issue. Have logged in and changed clothing to find that my entire body becomes solid black except for my head. Clothing doesnt show, skin doesnt show, and the only thing that *fixes* it is a change in skin. This has happened on my main and the toon I do a lot of my art work on. I tried the same ole clear n relog, going into apperance, where it fixes only to be corrupted again when I exit apperance.

Anyone else having this issue and know of a fix? I dont feel like tossing out an expensive skin :(

Don't throw out your skin!

Ashlynn are you on a Mac? I imagine you are as this seems to be a Mac specific bug introduced with the 1.15 "update". I've been seeing it as well, avs/parts of avs and objects (but mostly avs) randomly turning black. I've filed a bug report and it seems LL is aware of the issue. Hopefully it'll be on the list of things to get fixed...

Here's hoping!

I agree; DON'T throw out your skin!!!
I'm not sure what causes it, but sometimes a texture rebake can fix it; I've had it happen to me more times than I can count.
To do this; you'll need to enable the debugging menu with Ctrl-Alt-D, then go to Client -> Character -> Rebake Textures.
I hope this helps!

This really seems to be a new glitch introduced in the 1.15 viewer. Trust me; I've tried the old stand-bys of cache clearing, rebaking, relogging, etc. They only work temporarily. The "black out" will return. This is a SL viewer bug that only LL can fix. Take a look at this thread in the Mac Tech Discussion forum:

/164/0b/179974/1.html

From what I can tell this is some kind of incompatibility between the 1.15 software and the updated graphics drivers in machines running OS X 10.4.x. It doesn't seem to affect machines using earlier OS versions. It could also be a bug unique to those Macs equipped with Nvidia graphics cards. However, since I don't have other machines to test with I can't say this hypothesis is 100% accurate, just a pattern based on anecdotal evidence.

Rebaking is a temp fix, I do it each time I turn solid black. However, Im not on a Mac. I'm running on a 7800 Nvidia graphics card and using Vista which presents problems of its own with SL.

Thanks for the replies, at least now I know I am not alone in this one.

I have had this identical problem on a PC in the last couple of days myself. I tried rebake and clearing cache, but these did not help. I created a new skin, then re-wore the old one and that seemed to have worked... (/me crosses fingers...)

I've had this problem occaasionally, with my own and others' skins. I use modified files in the character folder for my skin; others I've seen the bug on do not. I use a Powerbook with OS 10.4.x, the graphics card is a Radeon Mobility something-or-other. So far, re-logging has fixed the problem, and in any case my friends have reported that they see me just fine. Some friends they are, perhaps, but I'm not terribly anxious about this particular bug.

Yep I'm on a PC too and last night I cleared my cache because I thought it would fix another problem I was having but instead I turned what I thought was grey, but maybe it is black. I'm glad I found this thread.

In addition to black, I'm seeing some of my textures on prims where it's supposed to be a totally different texture. Also sometimes I get a rainbow texture that makes objects look like they are lit up with Christmas tree bulbs. Most seem to revert to the right texture when I click on them.

I had this problem before the 1.15 upgrade. I logged in and my skin was totally balck. I worked with tech support for hours before we realized the problem was that I had docked my laptop into a 2 moniter system. SL did NOT like the double display and REALLy didn't like being moved to moniter #2.

TO fix it I moved back to moniter 1, undocked, rebooted logged in and cleared the cache. Then i put on a different skin until all the parts were visible again.

I don't know if this is your problem, but it was a pesky bug and took awhile to straighten out. All better now though.

That rainbow bug is annoying as all get out!!!!! I get it on every textured object around me at times and the only fix is to move. If I just zoom in and out again, as soon as I get to a previous position the rainbow fluttering comes back. I blamed my video card for a while, until it happened on a different machine. Makes it really hard to do photography work.

I've had this problem before with dual monitors - if that's the case with you, make sure you run SL on the monitor designated as the main (or 1) monitor.
