Hiho! This has nothing to do with SL, but you-all are the largest group of bloggers that I'm a member of, so please indulge me! I need to start a healthcare diary for my mom, so that her docs and my brother (should he ever take an interest in her care, grrrr) can all see her daily response to things, and a blog seems like a good place. I've never blogged before, though. Is there some blog site that is more perfectly set up for diaries like this than blogger.com (aka blogspot)? For example, it'd be great if I could have a calendar with significant events marked on it as a sidebar, etc..

Both blogspot and wordpress seem to be popular. I know with blogspot you can restrict access to invitation only. I don't have one so I can't give details on how to set them up.

I used blogger.com and because blogger is part of google I was able to add a google calendar. I am able to post important upcoming events and it sends out email reminders to all the members of the blog. It is pretty user friendly too. Good luck!

Try Google Sites. At least I think that's what it's called. It's more of a group collaboration type of site but it has a calendar. That's all I can think of.

I hope your mum is okay. Its really hard to be sure people challenged byy thier health have teh "voice" they need. In my Dad's case we had to be his advocate in so many things and it wore us down. I dunno your country or health system but I am sure there's places for this sorta thing. Even BBC has great sites. Life style and living. I recommend "Woman's Hour" which has great discussions on radio4.

Okay ... so I've looked at blogger, and thought about it. What I really want to do is have a front page with a link to the day-by-day diary, and a calendar, and a spot to post things like a list of current medications, a list of surgeries, a list of currently active conditions, etc.. So it sounds like I need a front page with all that stuff on it, and the only part with a post every day would be the diary. SO, is that front page part of the blog (and I can do it on blogger), or do I need to get a web page (prolly at Google too) and link to the blog for the diary? How is this usually done? (p.s. thanks much for the good wishes, Jig! mom is OK considering her age and weirdo ailments)
