Stuck on Orientation Island - escape!!??

Could anyone please tell me how I complete Orientation Island to allow me to progress further in Second Life? I've completed all 4 sections except Movement which keeps going weird. I complete 2 out of the 3 'stars' and have no idea what I need to do to complete all 3. I've flown, driving both cars and wheelie things, run over rats.... when I log off and go back in it also reduces my Movement from 2 stars completed to only 1 and I have to do it again.

I've spent 2 days wandering around in here, and don't know how to progress. Please help!!!!

Do a search for something, and teleport (TP) there.



If you don't know how to do that...completing O-island is a good idea perhaps?

open your map, click on any section, and TP there.

from Or island you can only TP to Help Island, open your inventory and type 'help' the tp link is in there, once at help island you can tp anywhere on the grid

I once made an alt for the specific purpose of examining the newest incarnation of the orientation.

Apparently, going into the map window and clicking on "home" will take you into the mainland, forever preventing you from finishing the orientation. That can't be intentional.

I recently created an alt on a new computer—I did a search, and immediately TP’ed into the main grid, bypassing Help Island too.

Also, I’m pretty sure LL put up an option to be able to return to O-island anytime you want.

at worst, log off, and relogin in to a specific sim.

to name a random sim: Rock

I can't see why anyone would want to leave the Orientation Islands... no ad farms, no flying dicks, no buggy friends list, group messages never fail and you never lose any inventory items.

and I almost forgot: no campers!

There are landmarks in the Library for both Orientation and Help Island Public. You can always head there if your initial education gets derailed.

Well, my alt spent two minutes there and two guys tried to chat her up, with very coarse language...until I told them they don't have pixel dicks in their trousers! (I didn't tell them they could actually get them..)

I myself didn't spend much time on OI either. I just TP'd out of it before even completing ONE of those tasks....

Thanks everyone for all your advice. I'm a complete novice to this so forgive my dumb question at the start! I did teleport and ended up on some hippy island, then my crashed so I'm probably still there!!!

How do you get back to Orientation Island if you want to 'refresh'? I'm trying to find out how I get to the workshops so I can start to learn what I need to do in this place and how to do it, I'm just wandering around at the moment..

It's fascinating reading the threads in the Forum though, gives a great insight, I just wish I was as skilled at it as you guys!!!

p.s How do you create another alt when you already have one?

Once you leave, you can't go back. As I said previously though, everyone has landmarks in the Library portion of their Inventory which will take you to non-newbie versions of Orientation and Help Islands.



Same way you made your first av...Linden Labs considers all avatars 'independent.' Oh, and they're currently free, despite what the membership plan information says about a $9.95 fee; several of us have had that fact confirmed by Linden Lab employees. Just make sure you use accurate contact info and you shouldn't have any problems.

I don't think you should be thinking about another alt yet...baby steps darling.

I'm not sure how to get back to O-island, but I know that it tells you in a "quick tip" when you are logging in. I think it's in the :HELP: menu.

And don't worry...take your time. Things will come to you...if SL is something for YOU, in time you will be as "skilled" as the rest of us.

I'm going to go and have another go at it all now. The info you've given me has been great.. I only read about all this in the paper the other night, but it's cool, even if it will take me a while to master! Cheers Guys!

I keep running into avs who have left Orientation Island way too soon and are floundering around. I usually help them with some basics and suggest they do a search for Help and get some more training.

Before leaving be sure you at least know a bit about TPing, flying, rezzing, building, editing and inventory organizing. Life will be so much easier when you get to the mainland.
