Eliminating red NO ENTRY bars

My new neighbour recently restricted entry to her property, which sits adjacent to mine. I have absolutely no problem with that, except that when I look out my window in my skybox, I see the red NO ENTRY bars wrapping around her property only inches away from my floor to ceiling window. I'm in a skybox, partly so I can have a nice view of the sky, sun and clouds. Is there any way I can turn off viewing these damn bars? Help would be appreciated.

Have you im'ed or spoken with your neighbor about your concerns? Generally, once a good relationship is established, your neighbor would add you to their access list and the lines would go away. A little communication goes a long way and good luck:-)

If you ask politely and you're on good terms with her, you could ask her to enable access to her land for you, while still excluding random avatars. That would make the red lines go away for you.

You could also raise your skybox higher. Above around 50m from ground level, the ban lines usually disappear, if access is restricted to only certain avatars and is not enabled for random avatars.

However, if you've been explicitly banned by name, I believe in that case the ban lines go all the way up to infinity. The fact that you're in a skybox (already well above the 50m level) suggests that maybe she's explicitly banned you. So that might kind of rule out the "if you're on good terms with her" approach.

Obviously, the way to check this would be to click on "About Land" on her land.

Thanks for those good suggestions, folks, I wasn't sure if the fix was something I could do or my neighbour could do. I've never met her, and she had not banned me (and I'd never given her a reason to, as far as I know), but the red lines still appeared despite my being at 230 plus metres. In any event, the land was just bought by a new owner, almost as soon as I put up my post, and the lines are gone. I'll wait until the ownership settles down and then see what happens after that.

Again, thanks for the quick posts.

You may be able to clip away the visibility of the no entry part.. by installing an "invisi prim".. I haven't tried this.. but it may be able to clip the no entry texture away since it's 32bit. So if you install one in your windows, that might do the trick.

Of course you won't see any trees out that window either.. so it's a matter of balancing the priorities.

Look out the other window perhaps?

Really, the only sure-fire way of eliminating those red bars, is to not build right up against your property line. They fade quickly, so typically if you back off say 5m all around, its not so bad.

Of course, if you're trying to build on a 512m plot, backing off a ways from the property line is a much bigger challenge.

Hmm i just thought of something. Aren't the ban lines a alpha texture? If so you can replace yourwindow with one of Beatfox's Inviso-Prims to hide it. Of course this would hide the clouds as well. But it's better then putting up a fake window that shows a texture of outdoors. :D

This is a good idea, much better then putting up a fake window with a texture of "the Outdoors" hehe. I have yet to try this as well but it is a nice thought.

A while back they extended ban lines up to either 250 or 500 m. I can't remember which. Move you box up there and they should disappear. The other option is to rotate your house 180 degrees and look the other way.

Though an option to NOT render those NO ENTRY bars might be a nice addition to the Client menu. You might want to place this under Feature Suggestions. I'mheading in-world shortly and will look through the (long) list of options there. It might already be inplace, but jsut buried under a sub-menu that makes litte sense to those of us wh are not Grid Monkeys *snickers*

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

Close SL, open C:\Program Files\SecondLife\app_settings and edit the viewerart.xml file. Find this line:

<noentrylines.tga value="5d3e196b-fd4d-ada7-e4c1-99f8e9f1cfbf"/>

and replace it with:

<noentrylines.tga value="f54a0c32-3cd1-d49a-5b4f-7b792bebc204"/>

Restart SL and you should never see ban lines again! (until you have to upgrade SL and then you'll have to edit the file again.)
