From: Enari Kuhn I've gone to the land store and clicked on a spot on the map that was unoccupied but I don't understand how to buy it it has some random links and some text and that's it because i'm ticked if I upgraded to premium for nothing. The online "Land Store" is only for use if you want to buy an entire island. If you want to buy a smaller portion of land, you need to log into Second Life and look at Land Sales on the Search tab. Fly to the area of land you want to buy and right-click on the land, and "buy land.." should be an option on the menu. When searching for land, you may wish to ensure that you search "only mainland" parcels. Private Island parcels will usually have a seperate fee to the island owner, which your Premium membership does not cover.

The land store is for buying an entire sim in island form. Is that what you want? If you're looking for a smaller parcel, you use the in-world search and filter for mainland from the drop down.

The landstore only sells complete sims (regions), which would cost you a monthly tier of $195. Land resellers buy the sims, split them into smaller parcels and sell those inworld. If you want to buy a smaller land parcel, you can find it with the Land Sales tab in the Search menu of the SL client.

If you're that new to SL, your best bet is to hold off, and learn before diving into a paticular property.

Learn exactly what?
I think what the previous poster was trying to say without sounding partronising is the fact that if you are focusing on the basic land questions, such as how to buy land, and how to import money into the game then that indicates that you are not yet considering the other important questions you should ask before buying land, price, location, type, neighborhood. So i think what the poster was saying was learn about those also before buying land or you could end up getting stung, ripped off, disappointed with what you buy.
Estate or Mainland - do a search and learn about it. PG or Mature - again decide Parcel size? Not only what do you want to buy but also is their neighbouring land available for you to buy if you wish to expand, or will you have to sell up again to expand or pay over the odds to buy out your neighbour. Parcel type, waterfront, hillside, snow covered, tropical, flat - prices will vary drastically sometimes. Is the sim busy, lots of avatars, great for making friends ,not so good for lag.
Dont think the poster was being funny, just trying to help you out.

Be sure to sort your land search by "for sale-Mainland" or you will be "buying" land that are actually rental properties on private estates.

You will probablly have a difficult time finding a 512 lot for $5-$10 USD (=$L1250-$L2580), although I suppose anything is possible. Around $20 USD is probably closer to the starting price for a 512, but there may be some people needing/wanting to sell fast.

Oh I rekon you might, have you tried typing 'Casino' into the search facility.. But seriously..you can buy L$ using the 'Buy L$' facility in the left hand column (a bit below 'forum') of this site. Yes as Brash says $5 - $10 is being a tad optimistic, it's best to look around a bit at what's available and finance accordingly.

Also, if you have already upgraded to premium, but don't want to yet invest the additional cost of buying a plot, I believe Ravenglass allows renters to trade their 512 tier for rent-free use of a 512 plot. It might even be that most landlords will do this, I dunno. While you don't technically own it, you have full use of a plot without putting out any extra fees for it. Be aware I don't understand the technical process of how this works, if you automatically get your "tier" back when you leave the group, or on request when you want to end the arrangement, or what. Questions you'll want to ask in advance.
On a practical level it makes more sense to take that $10/month and put half into Linden Dollars and the other half into a piggy bank, and in a few months you'll have enough to buy a plot outright and switch back to a premium account again.
The only people I can foresee actually using this, are people who already signed up for a premium account thinking they were going to get their own land as part of the subscription, and simply trying to make the best of it from there. Or people who have decided they want to use Premium accounts for the direct customer service help, or to show their support for the Linden program.
