has anyone else noticed that after they took the first look viewer crap away. everything went smooth. But as soon as they reimplimented it into the program...everything went to hell again. I'm casting my vote now to KEEP THE THING AWAY FROM OUR GRID. Open a totally differant grid to test it on. But DO NOT bring it back. Cuz yea...i for one am deeply saddened by my loss of time on SL having fun and being able to actually move without crashing or lagging so bad my feet end up on my head.

Uh, the first look viewer never left. You could still use the old version that wasn't pulled down. The first look viewer is not the problem. If it was, LL would have noticed it and pulled it a long time ago. The first look viewer is also the next release for the viewer, so it won't be long before everyone is using it.

uh the viewer is the client end not actualy part of the grid... its a viewer it also never was taken away they just pulled one update and we all kept using the previous update
people are strangely paranoid about lindens labs activities no they did not purposely take away your corner of the world in an evil plot just after you bought it . no they did not remove first look viewer and its not actually a part of the grid its on your side not theirs no they aren't out to get you no they are not sitting in dark rooms spying at you like an ant in an antfarm wondering what they can do to make your life miserable (okay that snow globe thing though that one is valid..) |

gah but it's so pointless....I've tested it and i see no reason to change whats allready working..to a point...
Why would you focus your time workign on a new viewer. when the old one was just fine. They should focus thier time on fixing problems and bugs instead of messing around with new versions of things that don't seem to bloody work. |

Indeed. I'm using it right now and I wouldn't go back to the old crap viewer unless I had no choice. The FL Client has absolutely zero to do with "causing" lag, because the FL client is just that - a client, not anything that thusly affects the servers.
![]() Edit: And I've had a massive improvement. From 5.0fps in the WA when there's 80+ people between the four sims, to well over 22fps. Everything's smoother, textures load faster, the improvements all depend on your hardware. If you're not seeing any improvement now, well, sorry. But I won't give up my FL client. ^^ _____________________

old one was not just fine that is why they are making a new one it renders much faster for a great many people who were experiencing huge draw time and load times due to it
many people report marked improvments some report no change some report slight improvment i'm in the slight improvment category but i do see an improvement none the less anyhow so what was that about first look messing up the grid now ? its a client they are updating it it did need it .. |

Yes the Firstlook is a very good thing! I have not a decent PC and it improved performance for me massivly! This is really a great step forward and a very very good investment of LL resources, people that program Client software do very different stuff than people working on databases, so its not really taking anything away from the other issues that needs fixing. For a lot of other Games i always waited for a performance patch but never got it. With the Firstlook viewer i can go to Clubs and places with a lot people without having 3fps, so it adds a lot of fun.
On the other hand, i think going Open Source might have to do something with the issues, namely Bots buying land, every plot of land i checked out that was not totally overpriced was not only gone, it was gone hours ago, so Land Search is lagging bad, maybe someone is stressing that part... but this gets off topic ![]() |

Yeah, they have the hitmen, but they are hired as a screen to distract you from their orbital lasers.

Plus, since they constantly take updated screenshots of you through your monitor screen, they know who you are and can pulverize you anytime/anywhere with the push of a button thanks to the said orbital lasers...

The First Look viewer is the beta for a fix of many problems and bugs people are complaining about. You do understand that to fix a problem or bug they have to actually do something new and not just keep the old which is where all the problems and bugs are? _____________________

Indeed. I'm using it right now and I wouldn't go back to the old crap viewer unless I had no choice. *applauds* I've found that I am NOT going back to the regular viewer. This thing crashes less on me, performance has improved slightly and when they add new features, such as actual reflective surfaces, they don't break the code. And when they do, they pull that feature and fast. While there are some bugs, reporting them seems to help, since most of the bugs I've reported have gone bye-bye with a new version. _____________________

First look is better in every way.
If things aren't running fast enough, don't blame First Look, install it. |

I installed the last "stable" first look viewer and hated it. Not only did it crash more on me, it rendered alpha textures worse - I was seeing my flowers through my mostly-opaque Japanese screen, as if I had set it on the other side of the screen.

First Look viewer rocks. So hard. They've even fixed ALL of the bugs that I noticed in earlier versions of it. It's so fast, and works better on dual-core systems than the official client.

Just curious...are you setting the affinity to 1? thanks Nope, with First Look I don't have to do any affinity tweaking whatever, and I can run multiple instances of the client, which I could not previously do on my Intel Core Duo-based notebook without the aid of an affinity-aware tool like WinLauncherXP (and even then it wasn't sure-fire). _____________________
