You might need updated video drivers. Do you know what graphic card it has, or at least what specific model of HP Pavillion?

Also are you connecting thru a wireless connection?

Not enough info to say, but many people have Vista up and running fine. Check your graphics drivers (new PCs frequently ship with old ones) and read what LL had to say about it recently: http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/07/20/vista-support-in-second-life/

Might also search the forums for "Vista", several threads already about it.

Vista is not the problem.

The dv6000 usually comes with both an onboard intel graphics for saving battery power, and a geforce 7400 for more demanding applications. So first make sure you are in "full power mode" and not "power saving mode", you might need to check your manual.

You probably also need updated drivers for the Go 7400. I'd try HP's driver download site first:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2093&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3224055&lang=en

Those appear to be from May 2007 which should be new enough for SL. Otherwise you may need to try laptopdrivers2go.com:

Make sure first to select Vista 32 or 64 from the left margin.

I believe wireless connections have difficulties soemtimes so if possible, try to plug directly into some sort of cable connection if you can..?

Are you on a wireless connection? That may be a great amount of the problem. I don't know, I don't have much experience with the combination of notebooks + wireless + online gaming.

Also, check and see if the laptop is getting unusually warm. If so, you might want to invest in an inexpensive ($20 or so) laptop cooler.:

INTEL Graphics only

I have the same model family and all I have is the INTEL chip set. Sometimes I can go for hours and sometimes I can t make it more than 15 min or so.
I just live with it until I can afford a more powerful computer
