Hi

Im very new in SL, and as far as i see, everywhere people are 'away' sitting on camping chairs.

Every mall i visit or every popular place, are just a bunch of 'zombies' (i mean, avatars sleeping) sitting.

At the end... this si good for SL?

I want to hear opinnions about.

*Where are real people in SL? I just find ppl in camping chairs every where

It appears you are visiting places strictly off the "Popular" places tab.

Try exploring some other places. The new Hanging gardens, Apollos lost garden, midnight reflections, the Greenies Sim... etc... There are some really cool places out there that do not have camping

People have already voiced their opinions on camping ad nauseum. Here's one example, although I'm sure 'Search' will bring up more.

I was exploring malls because i want to make business... but most malls (or maybe all) as far as i see, have traffic BECAUSE campings.

The trouble is, the real popular places don't appear at the top of the searches as too many places use camping chairs to fake their traffic figures. To anyone new it would look like the place is a ghost town with zombies :(

Good malls spread around by word-of-mouth, too. I don't shop, really, and I've heard of A Woman's Touch. It's true, word-of-mouth and the Picks tab on profiles are currently better ways to find value than Traffic.

Yep. That's *why* they have camping, in fact, to drive up their traffic numbers.

If you want to find malls that generate real business, all I know to do is try to visit a lot of them .. probably not the ones that get really big numbers .. and see where you observe a lot of people actually shopping.

Another option for a business is to buy land somewhere and build your own store and advertise it through the classifieds or other ways.

If you are looking for interesting places to explore, then I agree with what others said .. visit some of the places that have already been named, also try Caledon or ROMA, and frequently ask around for recommendations. There are a lot of really interesting and creative places in SL, but they're not always easy to find. That's part of the pleasure in it, really ... no matter how long you've been here, there are always new things to discover.

Avoid the malls then...a lot of shoppers certainly do. Personally, I'd much rather visit your mud hut o' stuff off in the horizon than slog through a mall trying to figure out which corner x product is hidden in.

Whats funny is the folks that start these gigantic camping playground to get on the Popular Places list and try to drive traffic. I checked out Avalanche (cause I build camping systems shhh) when it first came out and I tell ya -- what a what to attract the farming bots. But that is what they wanted -- traffic. It was open about three weeks with a hundred places to camp (it seems at least) Went there last night and it was EMPTY -- gone. All of it.

I do not see an issue with using camping systems to build traffic (of course -- I build them LoL) To me, if you want people to know about your place of business -- you have to spend money to advertise by any means possible depending on the degree of success you want to enjoy. Seriously, isn't it like buying Adwords from Google or click throughs? I have 12 websites in RL for my company cause we want to sell our products and in business Economic Darwinism rules. So don't hate people who decide to use every available ethical means to advertise their business. It seems like everyone wants to ban something in Second Life -- sheeeeeshhhh Go back to AOL instant messenger -- It would be easier on the rest of us who are not so easily offended.

Then why not get creative and pay for REAL advertising, instead of paying for false numbers?

Normal advertisement and mouth to mouth works good for business.
I have never used campingspots and we saw are sales growing and growing.
Ok, i have a moneytree. Not for the traffic but because i remember how
the moneytrees helped me starting on SL, and i want to give that back
to the new people now.

Then we got a great offer for out land. We couldnt refuse that (and afterwards
its good we did since prices fell down not long after we moved ;) )
Now on our new place it was not easy at the first weeks, but now its going
better again. Not yet at the point we were at our old spot, where we had
over 100 sales on avarage is our last weeks there. This week i'm gonna find some
nice advertisementspots again and i'm sure in a few weeks our sales will
be on a nice point again.

Not all malls have camping, just the ones desperate for traffic.

I just got myself a job working as a rental manager in a great mall and there is no camping there, in fact it doesn't even really seem like a mall, just a nice Sim with shops, houses and a yard sale.
