Building issues...

Not exactly sure where to put this. I could have stuck it in building tips, but I am not exactly looking for advice here. I am really, honestly, just curious if I am the only one having issues with building right now. All these issues have been bug reported, but I still suffer from them, and they make it very frustrating for me to create things that I eventually either want to sell or just share with my friends, or both.

So the first issue. When I create and select a prim, and move it, sometimes it will snap back to it's original place. I'm not exactly sure why it does that, but when it does I am forced to move it very slowly, bit by bit, to get it to go where I want. In the same vein when I resize a prim to the desired size, be it larger or smaller, as soon as I release the mouseclick it will automatically revert back to it's old size. Very frustrating.

The next major issue I have been having is with linked prims. It's also in the same vein as the above, but the other day I was working on several prims that were linked and I noticed the seams weren't as perfect as I'd like them to be. So I went to edit linked parts, clicked the prim I wanted to adjust, adjusted it just so, and bam, same thing happened. Again, and again, and again, ect. Every time I moved it to where I wanted it, it would go back to where it was before. I know I'm not the only one who has had that problem, my girlfriend and several other friends have also had that issue. I tried everything from unselecting the prim, and reselecting, to clearing my cache and restarting. The problem persisted.

Another frustrating thing, before I get to the one that really started this whole thing for me, I noticed if I leave a prim on my land, and log out, and then back in, it'll vanish. Not exactly sure where it went, because it wasn't in my inventory. Thankfully these seem to just be prims I've created, and nothing I purchased. But it's annoying.

Now for the biggest problem yet.

I cannot create copies of prims any longer by using shift. I create the prim, go to edit, hold shift down, select the arrow and drag, and nothing happens. The prim moves, no duplicate is created. Again, several times I've tried this, and several times it's done nothing. Bug reported, restarted and tried again, nothing. I cannot work on what I am trying to create if I can't freaking copy the damn prim.

So... Is anyone else having any of these issues, and my real question is... Has anyone come up with a solution to them, something they do that even temporarily fixes the problem?

These have been around a long time, I'm afraid. It does seem worse sometimes more than others. Sometimes the shift-copy doesn't work and I will relog and it will. Sometimes I get snap-back worse than others. Sometimes relogging doesn't work and I switch clients, from beta to the main client or the other way around. There also seems to be drag, on occasion, between editing the prim and the effect taking place, even in the edit window and if you move too fast it rebels.

Yeah, but a year ago when I joined I didn't see them. Actually... I haven't seen any of them until the last two updates, really. There were issues when Flexi and light first came out, but not as severe. I do get the snap-back worse than the others, like you. And I did notice that moving things too fast is a big part of why they rebel. Ugh... This is annoying, lol.

Well it is worse now, I agree. This happens much more often than it used to, it was unusual before, now I never know what to expect.

It's crazymaking, especially when you set aside time to build and it's hopeless.

An update;

Okay, so as far as the issue of not being able to create duplicate prims. They did create, I just couldn't see them. The primcount on the land went up, yet they were not visible at all, even with a ctrlaltT. They appeared later on, and then vanished yet again. Gone, yet still showing up on the primcount!

My girlfriend also has a roaming squirrel, and now we're suddenly having the same issue with it. As well as issues with butterflies on our land, and various other things. What's worse is we can't select them to even take them back, they are on the land, taking up primcount, yet not visible or selectable, only appearing at random intervals or not at all.

But I agree... It's damn near impossible to set aside time devoted for building, and then sit there and basically struggle the entire time to create anything, or be unable to at all.

With snap back on linked prims. One fix that seems to work for us is to simply pick up the linked set into inventory and rerez it.

Sometimes a relog doesn't fix it but this has so far every time.

Wow, and here I thought all these build issues were just thanks to my lousy connection. In a way it's nice to see I'm not alone.. :p

Hmm.. I wonder if it's not region connected? Usually, the time I see this kind of issue one of two things are happening. Either my connection is crappy (as evident by the fact that even the FireFox browser starts lagging) or the region seriously needs a restart.

Sometimes it's lag causing it, but that's so rare unless it's my connection... So, may I suggest a nice quiet sandbox and see if that helps? Don't use a Linden based, go to somewhere like Isle of Wyrms if it's not a big build and see if that helps. (Note if it doesn't, then I'm sorry. I'm not having too much problem myself, so this is the only thing I can think of to help.)

Actually it might be partially region connected. But in my case I strongly suspect its concurrency issues as this only seems to happen on our island when the concurrent logins get obscenely high.

It's not regional, as near as I can tell. I own two parcels of land, and it's happened in both, and in a sandbox that I frequent. =\ Unless all three needed it, which may be, though I wasn't lagging too bad in any of them.

*hmm* Darkness suggested the other thing I was thinking of. I stop working after the concurrent hits 32K because no matter where I am at that time, it starts lagging. I guess I am so used to stopping by now that I don't even think about it any more. Depends on your typical login time as to whether or not it's the cause.

Something that has happened to me recently, and I am assuming it is related, is when I try to resize something that I have linked. When I release the mouse click, the object disappears and I get a message saying that the object has been returned to my inventory because it "Went off-world".

Does anyone know exactly what that means? I wasn't changing its location coordinates so I know that I didn't accidentally shoot it off someplace. I was only resizing via "Stretch".

Don't forget to post this bug in JIRA if you haven't already!

My bad, it's already been posted. Go vote for it if you think it's important. It's issue #VWR-400.
