You reckon someone's throwing the auction on purpose to make sure this particular sim goes back to the auction block later? The bid was high to begin with ($3999). There's no way someone could possibly intend to pay this much, let alone TWO people (1 at $12,000 and 1 at $12001+), unless it's someone obscenely wealthy with an obsession with the sim name. Can't wait to see who did it.

This could be a strategy (albeit one in violation of TOS) of the person who bid $3999. They create 2 alts and bid absurdly high. This will prevent others from making a bid at the last minute. And when the 2 alts cannot pay for the auction, it goes to the person who bid $3999. Just a thought. Maybe I'm missing something...

Don't they reauction it if someone defaults? *edit: The second highest bidder has the option of buying it for their highest bid. If the second bidder refuses the option, then the parcel will be auctioned again. |

That's the thing though - if somebody bid US$12,000 for it, it would go up to US$1 higher than the next highest bid. The only way it could be US$12,001 is if one person bid US$12,000, and another person bid higher than that!

Don't they reauction it if someone defaults? The runner up is given the option of buying it at their runner up bid. |

The runner up is given the option of buying it at their runner up bid. Agreed, you are right Rockwell Here is the link http://secondlife.com/auctions/faq.php Someting is up. Either 1) Somebody has made a monumental fat finger error (Linden software or the potential purchaser) 2) Someone knows something about future developments in Second Life land or Linden Labs that we currently don't, that would justify $12001 3) Someone is either waiting for some people who wear white coats to collect him or her, or its attempt to block or otherwise rig the auction Sorry moderator but I have never seen this before in a SL auction |

Anyone else see that auction for the Morkeleb sim at $12,001??? This is USD, not L$, people! It's a pretty prime sim, with sloping land, an entire bay, a (protected?) river inlet, and a short boat ride out to navigable sea. It would be a fabulous base for boating, especially if you also owned the adjacent sim(s). But $12k is just insane. |

It looks like a very deliberate attempt to manipulate the land market to me - ie people bidding on other auctions decide they can bid higher on their auctions, which means they would have to charge more for the resulting land.
The fact that it required two different accounts cements it in my mind that that is what happened, sadly we'll never get to see who it was. _____________________

Are we sure it just wasn't some newbies confusing $USD with $L?

Are we sure it just wasn't some newbies confusing $USD with $L? Two of them, in one auction, and not in the others? And if it were a genuine mistake, it should have been offered to the next person willing to pay after the auction ended, not pulled and put back up before the end. _____________________

Remember, we've got nearly 2,000,000 newbies on our hands. Ain't all of 'em gunna be the sharpest tools in the shed. _____________________

Remember, we've got nearly 2,000,000 newbies on our hands. Ain't all of 'em gunna be the sharpest tools in the shed. But the auction should have been allowed to finish in that case. _____________________
