OK, I'm at Ambrosia nightclub, with Mark Attenborough doing the DJ live. His voice streaming into SL sounds perfect, like he is on the radio. And it's live - he responds to chat lines appearing on the screen. Yet it is a full sim, lots of lag etc.
So will somebody with a bit of technical knowledge explain to me, if the live DJ chat sounds absolutely perfect, why does SL voice chat break up so badly it's a miserable experience just even trying to make sense of it?
Surely, if streaming live into SL is so good, why aren't we all chatting that way instead of the godawful distorted broken-up mess we are having to endure?

They are streamed separately.
If you go into ctrl+alt+del when you have SL up you'll notice another program running called "SLVoice.exe" or something like that. Voice goes through a different system than music streaming so they are bound to be affected differently and independently of each other.
I've experienced both good streaming and bad voice chat and the reverse. It happens!

In fact DJ streams don't touch LL servers at all.
Your client get's the IP address of the server the DJ is using off the land parameters and the client talks directly to the DJ's server.
Voice on the other hand go's through to Linden Lab's black hole.

Voice on the other hand go's through to Linden Lab's black hole. That's half true. Voice doesn't go through SL directly but through a different system that links the important parts to SL(like I already said). This means you could potentially have super lag but be able to talk and hear people fine. Voice has it's own hole!
