I have a counseling service in SL and would like to turn off the "teleport" function in my classified ad for privacy reasons. I don't really want people teleporting within earshot of my counseling sessions, or onto my property at all while I'm meeting with someone. Is there a way to restrict this? Thanks!  |

You can restrict teleporting to a fixed landmark on your land or prohibit teleporting at all.
Why don't you split your land in two parts: One part, as the "greeting area" allows people to TP in, while the other one, where you need privacy, has TP and fly disallowed. There you can hold your counseling sessions in a skybox ... in as private an environment as possible in SL.
As the aforementioned permissions are being controlled through the land options, you would need to subdivide your parcel, but I don't see in which way this would be any problem at all.

if you are talkin in 'main' chat, it doest matter if people are 'near' or 'far' from you

The teleport is set to wherever you are standing when you make the ad. So just don't stand where you don't want people to tp in.

Definitely use IM. Chat is too hard to lock down.
I shudder to think of the legal implications around counseling within SL. Do licensing requirements depend on jurisdiction? What's the liability around confidentiality?
Or do you mean counseling in a less formal sense, where it's inconceivable that a license would be required. If so, I suggest looking for another term, like mentor or advisor.

A lot of people get around this restriction by renting a small piece of land as a greeting area, with Notecard dispenser, etc. Standing here when making the ad will set the teleport to there. This way no-one will tp in on you, and it is better they read your detailed notecard first, where you can advise them of the need for this, so it works for them too when you meet them. Plots for L$100 / week are regularly advertised in the Classifieds. Rock |
