Traffic is basically the total number of minutes spent by avatars in the parcel over a 24 hour period. 10 avatars spending 5 minutes - 50 traffic points 1 avatar spending 120 minutes = 120traffic points The updates happen at intervals, so the numbers lag behind current by at least a day. Sometimes the number 'sticks' for a couple of days.
In theory there is a super-complex secret formula for the Traffic number, but tests in the past have shown it to be 1 point per avatar minute.
The formula has been modified since yesterday to exclude counting avatars flagged as Scripted Agents. I can see the effect of this today when I look at some places that use bots and had high traffic because of them. Any bot-using parcel that has not dropped in the traffic rankings almost certainly hasn't registered their bots. Naughty!
