Don't Official Messages come through Official Channels?

well, sadly, i have to ask, as it seems that some major issues haven't been blogged in a timely manner recently.

in particular, i am speaking of a message being passed through many group ims today, the one that says (to paraphrase, dont have a clipboard copy) 'the vteam and lindens warn everyone...' to not rez anything dearly important to them, as it might fail to rez, become an attachment pending for that spot (??), and then completely disappear from inventory the next log in.

if this is truly from 'the vteam and lindens,' wouldn't it appear as a blue system message, rather than some stuff someone typed into a group im? wouldn't it appear on the blog? wouldn't the originator of this message have some sort of link to a source for verification?

i am skeptical, as i receive a healthy (unhealthy?) dose of 'flesh eating banana' warning emails from people who really are reasonably intelligent in every other manner. and despite the fact i keep reminding them to look up these 'warning' emails on the ciac hoax site before forwarding them to anyone. (let alone acting on them.)


so is there a rumor control to follow for this sort of thing? aside from checking the blog? and is checking the blog a watertight procedure for this?

Okay..if...and I mean a really big IF...this is true...and I lose inventory because of something that's been KNOWN, but unpublicized by the Lindens...then I will most definitely be very VERY angry.

THAT's bloody well something to start a protest over...

I'm taking today's "unofficially official" message serious (though I agree they should be viewed with *extreme* scepticism) only for one reason -- I've already lost two items _exactly_ as they described (prim attachments, that never appeared on me and also vanished from my inventory). I was lucky to have a backup in another color but it was one I spent a lot of time getting reattached to a new location and tinted right, so only annoying for me. Had I paid $2K for the object, I would have been extremely upset.

I don't know why they don't have ingame popups more. I know I saw an official one at one stage the past 24 hours, and it surprised me as I had never seen one like that before and it seemed a good idea. I forget now what it was, though ^_^

Judging by customer complaints, it really is safer not to rez anything of value at the moment. Lost of people lost items after rezzing them.

Announcing such issues on the blog... nah, that would show LL in a bad light. "We had problems but they're resolved now" looks much better. People who manage to reach a Linden might be forewarned and it's up to them to spread the message. The rest of us is better left in the dark. We could panic or something I guess.
