I have been in SL for six months now and I am very slowly building up a range of product I can sell in my shops. I know there is a far more quick and easy way to start a business: Buy one in a box.
That is not the way I like to do it and besides that: I don't really trust such boxes. Is it stolen material? Is it selling freebies? Knowing how much work it is to come up with decent product I can hardly believe these boxes can be made without fraud.
Now a friend has asked me how to quickly get a bunch of full-permissions objects for filling lucky chairs. And of course he has pointed me to some business-in-a-box boxes. I don't really know how to advise him. How do I know which box (if any) can be trusted?

Good luck. Your right, alot of them are stolen stuff. I would look on www.slexchange.com. At least then you can see the comments left by people to get a better feel.

With lucky chairs, it's best to make your own items anyway. A chair isn't going to draw many if it's just items that can be picked up free anyway.
I wouldn't touch 'business in a box', wouldn't want to reward those selling off others items by paying them.

I find the concept of Business in a Box broadly offensive. I'm calling SL911.

And I have already suggested to my friend that the chairs on his island should be filled with products from the local shopkeepers.

Some businesses in boxes are legit, some are not. I myself use one boxed business to offer some cheap accessories at my store, but only after I made sure it was a legit one: I checked the creator of the content in the box, looked up her profile, and got confirmation she had indeed abandoned her business and boxed up all her stuff for it to be sold as a full-perm package for resell. No resold freebies, no borked permissions, just the real thing being sold the way it was intended. I did that research at some risk to myself: I first had to BUY the box to be sure about who created the items. If my research had uncovered foul play, I wouldn't have resold the items and would have lost my Lindens.
The moral of the story: do some research, if you can confirm the items in the box were meant to be resold, go right ahead. If you can't confirm that, chances are the box is not legit. Up to you how you use that (lack of) information.
One last word of warning: even the legit boxes are being sold at radically different prices. I think I bough my box for 800$L, but saw the box being sold elsewhere for as much as 3000$L. I even saw PART (a small part at that) of the box's content being sold for 2000$L. Look around, use words like 'resell', 'wholesale' and such in search, and make sure you aren't getting conned into paying way too much.
