So how many have an alt of a different gender?

I play a woman on an alt (and announce I'm a guy irl on the profile), and don't see it as any different than playing a robot, jedi, furry, cartoon, or amorphous blob. Of those I have robot, cartoon, and furry, for reference. Jus seeing how many of you out there do play the opposite gender on occasion, and your views on it. I feel its a valuable part of resident answers to let others know they aren't freaky deekys!

Probably, Lucifer, but it is something that warrants new residents attention.
Personally I think anyone who get perturbed about the persons gender behind the keyboard to be trying to use sl as a icebreaker for RL meet.

Ceera Murakami (female) is my main avatar. But I also have an alt who is her twin brother. One of my male alt's main uses is to go where Ceera will not go. For example, if I have a reason to go to a Gorean sim, for building or sim design work, I am certainly NOT going there as a female furry! For similar reasons, those two avatars also have Human forms, even though I greatly prefer playing as a furry - sometimes fur just isn't appropriate, or causes too much lag for me. My other alts are about evenly split between males and females, but I tend to play the female ones far more frequently than the males.
It's interesting to see how differently people treat you when they think you're one gender or the other. I do a lot of roleplaying and stort telling, and like any author, sometimes the protagonist is male, and sometimes they are female. It depends on the story I am trying to tell. In my case I use my male avatars far more frequently just for roleplaying than for pixel sex. I absolutely NEVER date my on-line friends in RL, so what my RL gender is doesn't matter.

In my journeys as a woman in sl, I've found a few things out. 1. There are ten times the clothing and shopping choices for women. - I'm a shopping freak even on my male account, and help my rl fiance pick out clothes. 2. Some people compliment you on not only being open minded, but having the cajones to 'admit' publically you're a guy playing a woman. 3. Some closed minded fools act like its a sin, but some of them shut up when you ask if they are a wolf in real life. "I am the clown with the tear away face" Sorry, NMBC coming on!

I have, as I said in another thread, a male avatar. Finding clothes and such to outfit him has been a bloody chore, especially since I tend not to want to spend lots of cash on my alts.
However, he's quite fun to play.

I answered this in another thread too, but yes, I have two female alts. And like you Jonas, I just tell people I'm a guy. As to what they think about it, I don't really care, but I haven't had anyone be negative about it. And yup, the choices are wicked... but guy's stuff is really catching up in terms of variety lately, which makes me pretty happy.
I did meet a 'girl' once who wanted to friend my alt... I told her I was a guy straight off. At which point, she excitedly revealed she was in fact, a he, and thought it would be a great way to meet girls. Whereas I thought, hmmm loser.

Well, technically my alt is still male, as Laquita is a drag queen. However, a lot of the same things apply. My main account is so closely tied to my RL identity in both name and looks that it is fun to be able to create a character and go wild and explore things from that perspective.

I have a few alts, but none that I play as a woman. I don't think I could pull it off...

"So how many of you have an alt of a different gender?"
It's sick, sick, sick I tell ya!!!
Actually, if you write down what gender you really are in your profile then I guess it may not be so bad.
I recall in another game this type of question was asked. Someone wrote in responding and quoted what some respected professor who majored in the field of human behavior wrote regarding this matter. While I don't recall word for word what was written, I do remember he said most people who use opposite sex characters in roleplaying games do so for a reason. That it had nothing to do with anything as far as being able to buy more or different things in the game or anything even related to the game. That this actually had to do with hidden inner feelings of sexuality they were releasing through these characters of the opposite sex.
I do remember some people getting upset over this as they would never admit anything even close to this themselves. But it was there with the professors name and university he taught at.

I have a male alt, Anderson - who exists only to make love to me. Before you all start thinking I am a total perv - he lives on my laptop and only sees the light of SL day when I am making two-person poses and need another person Once in a while he has been on solo (I recently made a series of a male-optimised modelling poses for example) and it is amusing to have women hitting on him. I point out that I am a woman, normally Elgyfu, and why Anderson exists. Men, I notice, totally ignore him! I don't think of Anderson as 'me', just a puppet, where as Elgyfu is definately me - not sure if that is the gender or just that Anderson has a distinct job to play.

Before you all think I am a total pervert, let me explain.
Anderson 'lives' on my laptop and only sees the light of SL day when I am making a two person animation and need another person - it takes too long and is too boring to ask a rl friend to help.
The few times that Anderson has been online 'solo', (when I made a series of male-optimised poses recently, for example) it has been amusing to see how many women hit on him. I tell them I am a woman, who I 'really' am and why Anderson exists. Men, I note with amusement, seem to just ignore him!
I don't think of Anderson in anything like the same way I do Elgyfu. She is 'me', he is just a puppet. I don't think this is because of his gender, just that he is a tool for a purpose only (definately no pun intended!!)
