Fresh from Blondin's Twitter .... sync your SL Avatar with your AU page. https://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=2084639This may help restore some confidence in the new AU pages. I grabbed one, and it was quick and easy... Not sure what i think *yet*... but that is defiantly a way folks can make sure they have the *real* you.

Nothing in SL is *real*. That's the whole point, isn't it? Very true.. but the reason so many people refused to use the AU was there was no way to verify who was actually who they said they were in SL.. nothing to stop folks signing up with anyone else's name.. now, at least, you can see if the AU person from SL has been verified. Its a plus.

Fair enough. Thanks for not taking it personally.
I still think it's bull, though. It isn't as though there are plenty more constructive things they could be doing about avatar features in-world.

I completely agree.. they COULD be doing a hellva lot more. This lil HUd wasn't even a Linden creation... So its actually a one up on them that someone else did it first.

Brieanne - can you explain how much access this device gives someone on AU to you, inworld? For instance, something as simple as seeing that you are online? Considering that AU is accessible by non-SL members?

Considering that AU is accessible by non-SL members? From what I can tell so far, it does not allow anyone to see if one is online or not. Basically it puts your avatar name as a link to your profile from the sl website (e.g http://world.secondlife.com/resident/avatar_key), as well as saying "Verified" next to your name. It also shows your rez date. You can optionally provide a slurl to you home and/or business. It also looks like you can do quick tweets (or what the author calls "blips" from the hud inworld that will show up on your AU profile, which includes a slurl from where you "blipped" from. Needless to say, I won't be texting blips

From what I just read, the author is going to make the slurl part optional when you text a "blip", which is nice to know as it was my only complaint

People should still be wary. The " Verified)" is generated by a third-party application. Another third-party application could look like the same thing and put " Verified)" after whatever name. A parallel would be someone putting a group tag of "Linden Support" over their head.

From: Imnotgoing Sideways Have I ~ever~ been private about what I do as an avatar? (^_^) That's your choice....but you may not have the same types of things at stake, as some do - the levels may vary, and that does not disrespect you at all. And maybe you have never experienced a stalker before. The deal is, that LL busted this out, without some safety measures, and couldn't care less about someone's avatar persona and protecting it. It's also wide open for anyone to steal your business persona and business name and business reputation, that you have worked for, for years. Not only can it be stolen by another SL user....but it can be stolen by anyone on the web, and the amount of abuse that could be involved, could be endless. The potential for abuse in the any of the above situations is wide open. I could lay out some scenarios, but do not care to give anyone any ideas.

I'm pretty much accustomed to being a relatively open book. (^_^)
What few stalkers I've come up with have been pretty mindless dolts. They tend to "find" what I already place out in the public and compile it as if they've revealed some sort of conspiracy. (^_^)
As a result, I've decided to provide them with a glut of information. What comes of it is the death of the thrill and all that's left is empty obsession and copy-pasting my blog and forum posts. The more they know, the lest they WANT to know. (^_^)
... All of which I can deal with over a hearty laugh. =^-^=

You're fortunate if it caused you no grief or consequences, and can laugh about it. Also talking about people who have invested huge amounts of money and time and efforts in business ventures.
