Does anyone know of any Linden highway that you can actually drive a vehicle on and any Linden waters where you could sail a boat..?

I'm guessing the answer is a resounding NO!! but feel free to surprise me...

I am not a driver, I know there are lots of roads, but I don't know much about them.

As for boating though...see Ava Glasgow's signature

"Enjoy SL boating? Visit the Nautilus Harbor Public Boat Launch in the southwest corner of Salerio, providing access to several Linden ocean regions. It's totally free! "

Pretty sure of you look at her pick's in her profile you can get a TP there...and she prvides free boats!

She was kind enough to build a boat lanch on her own land for the public to enjoy.

YAY AVA!!!!

One of the largest mainland inland lakes, made up of 20-30 Linden sims is just to the East of the Isabel & Wingo sims.

There's an island in the center, Linden owned - that has rez enabled so you can launch your boats.

The Shelter has a free self-guided balloon tour of the area, starting on the shoreline just to the east of the Shelter.

:D

A warning, though: the Linden ocean areas in Nautilus are all set to no-script. This has never been a problem for my speedboats or hanggliders, but apparently many of the more advanced sailboats don't work there. I mean the ones that work like real sailboats, responding to the wind... the ones in my freebie boats box look like sailboats but move around like normal powerboats.

But that's okay, there are other places where sailboats work! Check the ANWR region, as there is a small boat launch parcel right next to the sailboat race starting line. Sometimes the prims are all used up there by squatters, though. Also, the region to the north of ANWR (I think it's Sudukko or something like that) is buildable, so you can launch there too.

For vehicles, I just learned about the Vehicle Sandbox right here on the forums yesterday. It covers six regions, two of which are Fame and Fortuna. The have small vehicle rez areas, and once rezzed you can drive around the whole thing.

One of the Linden roads runs past our land in Kishijoten, the only problems I've had there are because of my lack of driving skill. :) I used to sail down the river that ran through my old land in Moraine, and I still sometimes go rez my boat around Abbott's and sail around the big empty lake area in Rosedale. Once I went to the end of a road around the Waterhead WA-- Huron, maybe?-- and started riding my bike, and just rode as far as I could... that was fun, I didn't have any serious problems beyond a little of the usual sim-border roughness.

I routinely sail across the entire grid from Wetheral to ANWR by navigating the Linden straits using property lines. I usually don't have to manually adjust the wind angles or turn the motor on to be able to move around on these, although tacks can get tight and sometimes I depend entirely on the momentum of the boat to squeeze through a path upwind.

A few months ago I drove across the main grid multiple times (per SESSION) using the Dominus Shadow in mouselook and cruise mode. I'm not sure how stable it is these days, but if I've done a few cross-country sails recently I can't imagine the experience hasn't degraded much.

Either way, the trip requires patience, and the chance of getting disconnected is still fairly high. The last time I sailed from the Waterhead/Wetheral area to the north coast of the northern continent (the one north of ANWR), it took roughly 3 hours with a few stops to chat up people, detour through Abbots (tight, but possible) and get disconnected roughly 3 times.

or the spots they are supposed to be
hardest part if finding an area to rezz a vehicle
and crossing sim lines slow way down or you will end up under the road

The road to hell is paved with asphalt-textured prims. :p

OMG OMG, yesterday I went sailing with three of my friends and it was a blast. We started at Carnforth at the Statue of Liberty build and then headed along the shore until we wound up at the Linden office sims. I steered and my friends just sat on any part of the boat that would let them. It was great... I am hooked....

Do a search for Flying Takos. These are about L$250 and are small enough to fit anywhere. They sail like real sailboats and most of the travel is generally hands-off aside from turns and sail adjustment. These are great little boats for cross-country travel considering their size and relatively low overhead. You can manually set the wind, in case you find yourself needing to sail up a 3 meter wide straight directly into irons. ;p

I picked one up at FairChang Island ages ago... can't recall the name of it at the moment, since I'm not in world, but it's a simple sailboat, steers very easily with the arrow controls, and I could change the name and logo.

lol, when I was a noob I had one of those free motorcycles. I remember trying to put it out on a road, cause I wanted to just drive across the grid, I had to go onto someone's land who allowed that, put it out, get on it, and drive it onto the road.

Damn, good times, lol.

I wanna know why any decent virtual world builder wouldn't edge all their continents in water sims so you can sail right around and link the continents together by water
