There may be a chance that i could get 2 popular bands to play in SL, how would i go about doing this. At present i cant say what bands in case they cancel.

I know i have to ask the land owner for permission but thats about it.

Thanks

In addition to owners permission, you would need media rights to insert the stream url to get the music into the land. You will also need the correct method/server type, to stream the music to many listeners. I don't do that myself, but have heard of 'shoutcast' as being one such method.

Ok, so if the artist or both agree and i set up a shoutcase account etc how do the SL users hear the music? Would the owner of the location need to change there music stream?

Sorry I am new to this side of SL

Shoutcast is the software that connects you to the stream. You would need to get a stream in addition. Then the URL of the stream is inserted into the audio of the land.
This enables that stream to be played on the land.

If you go to the Shoutcast site, and read, you'll find the information for which you are looking. You need two things. One is Shoutcast, which distributes the stream. The other is a server, which hosts the stream. If you are sufficiently tech-capable, you might be able to set up your home computer as the server. Otherwise, there are plenty of places that will serve as Shoutcast host accounts.

"Playing a show in Second Life is done by sending a live music stream from your own computer to a Shoutcast (http://www.shoutcast.com) or Icecast (http://www.icecast.org) server, and mapping the server's stream URL to a parcel of land in Second Life. People who visit the parcel in Second Life will immediately hear the live music stream. Musicians are also typically logged into Second Life at the same time as they are performing, so they can chat with the audience between songs and even take requests! There are also many Residents in Second Life who run clubs and venues specifically to host and feature live musicians, so you don't necessarily have to own your own parcel of land to get started. When you are in Second Life, try joining and talking with people in the "Live Music Enthusiasts" Group to find venue opportunities."

The process for playing live music in Second Life is identical to that of DJing in Second Life. I haven't had a chance to review this video, but it is probably a good start in the right direction:

One important thing to consider among many is to make certain that the mix is optimal for an average set of computer speakers, typically consisting of left/right/sub. Don't mix for the room, and send that feed to the shoutcast. It'll likely sound crappy in SL. Mix with a set of headphones - if it sounds good in the cans, it'll sound good on the stream.
