Has anyone else experienced or knows of someone who has experienced the following:

Last night SL crashed and I couldn't restart from my last location so restarted from my original home location. No sooner had I appeared, I was getting up my Landmark list to move on, when someone (unseen) put a cage around me then lifted both the cage and myself into the air and deposited me at the bottom of the sea.

Whoever did this, probably thought I must have been new to SL, but for new people just starting, with probably no Landmarks to Teleport to and getting acclimatized to the new environment they find themselves in, it would be a very startling and unpleasant introduction to the main SL grid for them.

So are Griefers now waiting to ambush new people coming from the welcome areas into the main grid just for their infantile amusment?

Whaddya mean "now waiting?"

This has been going on for as long as I've been in SL. there's a major sandbox adjoined to the spawning point I entered SL from. Not only did we have greifers, we had several ARMIES of griefers calling that sandbox their "home base".. caging is truly the least of your concerns, as being caged is ususally only the act of a noob who found a weapons box.

There are MUCH more evil weapons out there that can orbit you so fast that your attachments can't render, your avatar deforms, and you are pushed into the blackness of the Linden skies. Or they can attach particle systems to you that spout thousands of the most vile graphics, sounds, and chat spam you can imagine. In such as way to make the victim look like the greifer.

And yes.. they are all lying in wait. For fresh meat.

It might help if the land (your home) is set to group and you apply the No Scripts, No Objects from outside the Land, No Push, No Build options, except for group residents? Its not perfect, but works upto a point.

Thank you for the warning, I'm relatively new, only joined beginning of Nov 06. What happened to me was a first, but naturally thought about what a newbie would think of it on their first official spawning into the live grid. Not a very nice welcome all the same.

What he/she meant by "home" is the home location he/she was given by default upon joining Second Life after leaving the help area...I think. :D
