A lot of us were getting it earlier in the day, when they had the power outage issue.
Sometimes you get messages like that if a website changes its IP address, and some of the Internet Service Providers are a bit slow to update their listings that match website domain names with IP addresses. Usually in those cases, you have to wait a bit longer for the local ISP to update its information. Eventually, the local providers get the information updated and you can connect again.
No idea whether that is the problem here.

Well the weird thing is that it's only happening with one computer. My other two connect just fine. I'm not sure if the comp i'm having problems with dosn't meet system requirements for the processor would have anything to do with it. be advised i'm a computer moron.

I don't think that is the message you would get if the computer specs were not up to par.
My guess is some issue with that computer's network setup. Which I know little about except maybe something vague about a HOST file that could be an issue.
Luckily, there are other, much smarter people here who might be able to shed some light on this, if you can be patient.
Are you using the same computer to post here in these forums? Is the other computers connecting to SL while you are trying to connect on this one? (We have multiple household computers connect to SL through the same internet connection without issue, but for others, there are some settings to muck around with to get multiple computers to "play nice".
Does this computer have the same connection problem if the others are NOT connected to SL?

i am using the same computer to post in the forums. I have not tried to connect multiple computers to SL at the same time because there was a warning about having to adjust things with my router setup if i did that. Ans i can be very patient until someone can give me some clue as to whats going on.

My guess would be that the residents who hang out in the Tech Talk forums will be the next best place to stop. We're a pretty eclectic mix here, knowing as much about shoes and politics and turtles, as about networking. Or as LITTLE, as the case may be. Anyway, a bunch of general stuff all thrown here and there.
Tech forum is where you find the specialists who delight in solving such problems. Fewer in number but mightier in knowledge.

I have the same problem. It happens when a first attemp fails or after a crash. When a relogin is done to quick this problems appears. After a pc reboot I'm able to login again. Perhaps a new DNS request is made then. I'm sure this is not a network problem. Also the login screen gives all the details like the number of logins, blog etc.

sounds like a proxy server issue to me
when LL was down yesterday and you tried logging in the first time the 'server not found' page got cached by your IP and subsequently you only got served the cached page every time.

Ok I never did figure out what the problem was exactly but it did have something to do with my OS (XP) being corrupted. In safe mode i was able to log on to the grid using sleek but i was unable to connect to the grid at all when not in safe mode. I fixed it by deleting XP and installing Linux (I did not have a windows disk).
