I'd like to sell stuff in the shop of a another player, with his/her permission of course.
What's the best way to do this: I'd like to sell an object containing several other objects, such as:

- clothing (non prim)
- accessories (prim, need to be fitted)

I'm confused how to set the mod/copy/trans setting on each of the items, as well as the container I've give to the shopkeeper. I'd like to prevent my work from being sold without my consent.
I've read many threads about selling, but still can't figure out how to 'conifg' my product...

cheers, mercutio

there are a few ways to do this
1. you can put the items you want to sell into prim boxed, put a pic of the product on the outside of the box and set the sale price and then just lay those out
2. you can use a vendor system and put the items in that and put the vendor machine out
3. most malls or shops give you a certain size space and amount of prims you can use and you pay weekly or monthly rent for the spot
4. ive never given shop owners my items to sell just rented spots in their shops or malls

but with any of these you dont get a choice as to who can or can not buy your items once its out for sale anyone can come and buy it

If the space is in a mall, the odds are good you'll still have to join the merchant's group for that mall, or else your prims will get auto-returned.

The most easy and safe way to allow other people to provide merchant space for you would be to look up the APEZ system, on the web. You can set up merchandise through APEZ, and other APEZ merchants can put in in their in-world vendors for you. They get a percentage cut of sales, and you specify what that profit split is when you set the merchandise on the website.

Individual merchants who use a networked system like JEVN can also set up a profit split deal on their vendors.

It's unlikely any merchant will give up part of their prim count and give you free rent, without you sharing your profits with them.

Thank you for your fast reply. I've found someone willing tol sell my items, free of charge - as I suppy him with free copies of the items, for personal use. Assuming I place one of my object in is vendor - will he need all rights? And where will the money go?

If you are just placing the item for sale inside a prim, and setting the prim to "Sell Contents", then if you place the prim, the money goes to you. If you gave him the prim, and he placed it, then he owns the prim, and he gets the money.

just a basic concept you might have missed, is you actually sell the products, rather than giving to him to sell. if you're in a group as mentioned you can place your own items on his land and the money paid into them would go to you. at least that's how it's done 99% of the time in sl malls.

will he need all rights?

No. You just rez your vendor in his shop and, if necessary, make sure you have the right group set.

Great Info! Thank you all very much :) !
Now I still would like to ask your opinon on how to give right regarding clothing. As I wrote above, The box will contain several items, and I need to get the permissions right.

Vendor object(no mod / no copy / notransfer)
Box (no copy / no mod / no transfer)
- Clothing (non prim) (copy/modify/no transfer)
- Accessoires (prim) (copy/modify/no trafnsfer)

Are these the correct settings? It dosnt need mod rights for the box to open it, right? It doesn't have to be copy so the vendor can sell copies of it? The customers should be able to adust the appearance, despite the no mod.

I hop I got alll of this right, if not just holler!

Thank you for your friendly support so far!

* Vendor object(no mod / no copy / notransfer) -- NO
Not possible, unless you exploit a system glitch, as the system will make any no-copy item transferrable, by default. It's not necessary to restrict vendor perms, in any event. You must own the vendor for you to get the money, and must be able to copy and mod it to set up and place them. So the 'next owner rights' are irrelevant. You won't ever sell a product-loaded vendor to someone. Set it to OK on all rights, so you don't screw over someone that you might give an empty copy of the vendor to, if you help someone else get started some day.

* Box (no copy / no mod / no transfer) -- NO
Not possible, unless you exploit a system glitch, as stated above. Use (copy OK / no mod / no transfer) or (no copy / no mod / transfer OK). If the box is used to sell the contents directly, then it doesn't matter, as with the vendor issue. You need to own it and have full perms to use it to sell with. If they are getting a copu of the box itself, use (copy OK / no mod / no transfer) if the items inside are no-transfer, or use (no copy / no mod / transfer OK) if the contents are transferrable.

* Clothing (non prim) (copy/modify/no transfer)
* Accessoires (prim) (copy/modify/no transfer)

Anything with prims that have to be adjusted to fit the user will need to be (copy/modify/no transfer), and this is a faorly popular setting for most buyers. It allows you to place clothing items in multiple outfits, and gives you a backup master copy in case the one you were trying to re-size or re-color gets screwed up.

Also consider offering a (NO copy/modify/transfer OK) version. This allows people to give it as a gift. It also allows them to sell or return an expensive item if they no longer desire it or it gets 'broken'.

Most clothing merchants will replace a non-transferrable item without blinking, if they have a sales record for that buyer. If it was transferrable, they will usually want to have you give the 'broken' item back to them, to fix or replace.
