Anybody watch the last episode of The Grid Review? Interesting coincidence that ESC does a big feature on online poker, then stopped doing the Review at all, and then SL bans casino gambling.

Did ESC draw attention to gambling in order to force SL to kill it?

I'm leaning that way. Because that would mean ESC played t0xic Scissor like a card, and that concept kinda pleases me.

They scan all your rezzed objects and put them on a searchable database.

They run a 3rd party market site where you can buy SL items dierectly that will be sent to you in world.

I believe the do professional builds for corporate clients.

That's just silly. Let's not start any ridiculous conspiracy theories at the expense of any of our peers, please.

From an article on Forbes.com
From: someone
Following an FBI investigation, Linden Labs has banned all forms of gambling from Second Life, according to a posting on the company's blog. Linden Labs had announced in April that it was cooperating with FBI scrutiny of the virtual world, including law enforcement officials' visits to the game's casinos.

From the same article:
From: someone
...while some virtual worlds have discouraged the exchange of game money for dollars, Linden Labs condones the practice. The company also gives its players full ownership over the virtual objects they purchase in the game, rather than just a license to play with them, as other games do.That means Second Life is as susceptible to gambling laws as any other online casino, says Sean Kane, an attorney and author of the forthcoming book The Law of Video Games and the Virtual World. "The language in the laws against gambling aren't specific to physical dollars," says Kane. "Second Life's currency, the Linden dollar, has real world value, so it's easy to argue that the gambling in Second Life is illegal."

I don't know about the accuracy of that article because I seem to recall LL denying that the FBI was investigating anything in SL at some point not that long ago, but it's a far more likely theory than trying to blame ESC or anyone else. No one needs to be made into a pariah over this. It was inevitable from the moment the law went into effect, and we should probably be thankful that LL decided to take this step before anyone went to jail over it.

Yep, but if that happens now they won't have anyone to blame but themselves.
