I went through live help twice with this, the girl who did answer goes "deed an object? you mean rez?" and then proceeded to tell me that common sense tells me if someone is evil they will do something- was that my question? no it wasnt. Second time no anwer at all. Then proceeded to directly IMd a linden and got no response. Ive been waiting almost over 30 minutes for an answer

My question:

"Is there any potential harm in allowing ppl to deed objects on my group owned land? like is there anything they can do with deeding to cause harm that they can not do with an undeeded object...?"

Reason- on group owned land your tvs/radios must be deeded to use; i wanted to give my tenants ability to deed their own things but IF in the event someone had ill intent, im wondering if allowing things to be deeded is safe or are there things they could do to cause destruction with deeded items that can not be done with things that are undeeded.

All i know deed for is to allow media devices to stream on group owned land, is allowing all tenants to be able to deed items safe or is it giving them too much power?

Simply put is there something i do not know, and SHOULD now about deeding items.

I would love to know, im just being cautions, if anyone has an answer let me know please

Your stated reason for wanting people to be able to deed will backfire on you. For a given parcel, you can only have one stream. If everyone deeds their TVs and starts setting channels, they will all get the same channel on all their TVs. basically, you'd give everone a remote control to a single cable box hooked up to everyone's TVs.

The only danger I can think of is that items deeded to the group could be deleted or edited by other group members. So, if Johnny puts up movie screen, and Suzie decides she doesn't like it, she could delete it when Johnny's not looking.

Beyond that, I can't really think of a way any harm could be done.

Deeding just gives the object a new entity as owner. This is why you must deed parcel media devices to group on group owned land, the owning entity must be the same in order to use the parcel media commands.

Stuff about group owned objects:
  1. Objects scripted to take money will distribute money to the group.
  2. Objects sold will also distribute money to the group.
  3. Under some conditions, objects owed by group can be transferred or copied into the possesion of other group members. (Unchecking the share with group box stops this, I'm fair sure.)
I think that's about it. Other will flesh it out if that's not it, I'm sure =^.^=

Ah okay, sobasically if someone wanted to cause some type of damage they could just do it with rezzing something- it dont make a difference being deeded.

Also, chosen- only group officers can take/delete deeded objects now.but i think there was an option to allow anyone to move deeded things, i would have that unchecked of course

well thanks to all who answered. I just didnt want to do anything that could give someone too much power that i was unaware of!
