Is it possible for the last owner of a group to delete the group entirely, and if so how?

If a group is deleted, can another group be created having the same name?

Is it possible to change the founder of a group?

Is it possible to rename a group?

Thanks for your help!

The group will delete itself if there is only one person in it. Kick everyone out of the group, close enrollment, and it will go away in a day or two. DO NOT DO THIS if the group owns any items or land that you do not feel like donating to Linden Lab. Group owned land goes away if the group goes away.

From what I understand, the group name is lost forever once the group disbands. If you want to reserve the name for the future, keep the group active by keeping yourself and an alt in it.

I don't know anything about changing the founder's name, but based on the definition of founder, I would assume you can't do that.

I don't think it's possible to rename a group, but if anyone knows a way to do it, please post here. I'd like to know the answer too.

Thanks Argos. What I really want to do in one particular group is change the founder but I control the ownership of the group and it doesn't own anything at all. So my plan based on your reply is to simply remove everyone from the group and have it go away. Once it is gone, start over by having the correct founder create a new group having the same name as the dissolved group.

But I would like to hear the outstanding questions answered more generally.

yes to your first question, the group will disband itself.
No on the rest

I'm not sure the above plan will work. Sure the group will disband but I'm fairly sure you won't be able to open a new group with exactly the same name as the first one. You may have to change the name slightly...

How does that make sense? It isn't a yes or no question.

It is not possible for a resident to remove a group. A group is disbanded automatically 48 hours after its membership is reduced to a single resident.

Group names are unique (a MySQL constraint), and it is not possible to create a new group with the same name as a previously existing group. This is likely because the group name itself is the unique identifier for the group, and deleting a group entirely (required to create a new group with the same name) would orphan the transaction history associated with it.

It is not possible to change the founder of a group. Since there is a L$ transaction associated with creating/founding a group, changing the name of a group's founder would likely create an inconsistency in the L$ transaction database.

Most likely for the reasons touched upon above, it is also not possible to rename a group.

I recently started a group to buy land, just my sweetie, my alt, and me. Fiddling around with roles and titles (we're all owners, but I wanted different titles), I accidentally unchecked the original owner box on myself and couldn't recheck it. Didn't really matter to me, since I still had all the ownership powers anyway, but he went ahead and gave it back to me. So, basically, I gave him primary ownership when I checked that box on him and unchecked it on myself...it became his group, even if I was still able to act in an ownership capacity.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.
