I was copied - have questions...

I was copied this morning. It was odd.

Now I have questions:
- Did that person who now looks like me also get my name?
- When that person logs out and logs back in, will he/she/it still look like me?

First off, none of your personal data was copied.

What was copied was your shape, clothes, attachments. As for the attachments, it only copied the prims and textures, not anything on the content tab.

As long as the person that copied you leaves the stuff they copied on their alt, it will look like you...but, you needn't worry about it getting your name or any of your personal data.

Oh, and if you do see yourself...send the copy an IM of "!quit" without the quotes. That will log the copybot off the grid.

Thanks Wicked. However, I was copied despite the bot defeator running - that throws out a !quit every 15 seconds or so...

It all happened quite quickly. I was so disturbed I couldn't even get a snapshot of it.

Someone could take your account if you end up given them your password, but noone could just take your name, or fake your name in a way that would be passable/believable/doable.

Copybots are still regular avies, except someone is logging on with some other program instead of the SL viewer we all use.

The shape definitely seems to be a one time thing, also since they don't have access to the SL viewer, they can't really jot down all the numbers either. As far as shapes go it seems to merely mimic rather than actually copy. Once it relogs it goes back to having a basic, newbie shape.

Skin/clothes seems to depend since some people reported that they were still wearing those when logging the avie back on normally which isn't necessarily a big worry since all it has is a baked texture, not the individual skin or clothes.

I knew it was going to happen as soon as I walked into this place. I saw someone following me around on the mini-map and turned around to find them almost on top of me. Then they appeared to be madly scrambling to get at something behind the scenes (you know, you see their head looking up to the toolbar, trying to get very close to you)...

Very, very creepy. It was an unverified created on 11/14.

Yeah, I'm afraid the !guit is limited, since the source code is freely available, anyone can mod it, and change the logout command to what ever they want it to be.

IMHO, this copybot thing is only a problem for content creators that worried about losing their IP....it can't harm the general SL community. ...in general terms, of course.

...and of course, never, never give anything or anyone your password.

If this person was following you around, it wasn't a copybot. CopyBot doesn't have a UI on the client side, and there's no way to move it around (it can teleport, but only when someone sents it a TP offer).

Guys, it DOES save shape information, clothing, hair, jewelry, skins, etc.

I've said this 100 times and so have others. The last update/upgrade to it that was offered to people who bought it around 2pm SL time yesterday. It was tested out in front of me with my own eyes, and they were able to recall everything of ME after ME was clearing and the av changed.

It also took a prim for sale on my wall, saved the textures and my friend was able to recreate that outfit.

The YouTube video was in it's most basic form. That was NOT with the changes that were made all day yesterday. Case and point, people kept shouting the !quit defeater and it was changed and bypassed within an hour. They gave out upgrades to this stupid thing and it did all of this stuff. No the original did not. The last package to be given out, DID.

If this is true, have someone post a copy of the new, improved bot so that we can see this for ourselves.


So far, you're the only person who has claimed that they have seen the bot recall an outfit after the fact, and with your avatar not present.

Perhaps I should have been more specific when I said there was an AV following me around...that's how it started when I arrived at the store and being only 2 months old, I am not quite quick enough to know that sometimes people do indeed mean to be a nuissance. I was busy clicking on the AV's profile and going through its "picks" (none there) to see what it might have wanted from me - not to mention IMing it to ask if I could help it with anything (LOL) while the situation progressed.

To be honest, I don't really care that someone else copied me but I just found the experience a little unsettling in the same way I found the first time I was pushed by someone while minding my own business looking at prefabs.

Actually, I'm not. Several people last night in the STOP THE COPYBOT channel saw the same thing I did. That channel goes by fast, but I do remember at least one name of Beatrix something or other. Yeah, I know that's not a help, but everyone seems to be seeing the YouTube video and saying I SAW IT WORK and THAT'S FACT! When infact that version responded to !quit which was bypassed within a few hours of the defeater.

I watched a trusted friend do this to me (on an alt of course, as it instructs you to do), and explained step by step. I did NOT get this myself. I wasn't about to let a 3rd party program go through my computer. I don't know enough about coding and such to know what to look for to see if they are using malicious type stuff.

I was told an idea on how the update changed the program but I'm not going to spread it around.
