My favourite club has a money spolder and it's great fun - everyone wins something.
But i've heard they're not actually allowed because theyre against the gambling terms?
Can anyone shed any light on this as I was about to buy one!

If the OWNER seeds it and it gives out randomly = legal.
If people have to put money in and get a random payout then no. |

That must mean the club I go to use an illegal sploder - we all put money in (including the owner) and then it explodes and we all get random payouts.. hmmm |

There are some Liasons that indeed interpret the ToS to mean that sploders are a violation. Use at your own risk.
Additionally, sploders are on the first page of the "Gambling Equipment Removal List" thread that's stickied at the top of this forum. _____________________

Yeha I had a read through that thread - but there seemed to some confusion, i couldn't really find an answer. I think it's best to just leave it, not worth the hassel! |

![]() There are also sploders where the owner has set to put like 100 lindens before starting, then each person can add 10/15/25... whatever... Is that legal? You can earn a pot... ![]() Dunno, too much questions bout it... |

Games of "chance" are illegal if you have to pay money in - such as the old sploders.
Skill based games, for example, timed sploders - where they go off at a predetermined time (which is announced when the countdown starts) and the last person that pays into the sploder before the timer goes off wins half of the pot, or whatever, then that is skill based and therefore not "technically" gambling. That's what I can gather from the sploders I have seen around... there are also other ones that require you to answer trivia questions and such. Again, skill based games for money are allowed under the TOS but random chance gambling games are not... Perhaps it's one of the newer types that the club you mention has got, if not then it is definitely illegal under the LL TOS. |

For the Shelter 3-year anniversary party back in August, I put out a money machine (using my own funds) that paid out L$3 every 3 minutes to anyone under 30 days old.
After the machine was running for about an hour, a Liason silently came by, and the money machine went poof. Based on my own experience, I can only assume money machines aren't allowed under the new rules, regardless of who is paying into it. _____________________

Who was the liason? Because surely that means camping chairs and money-trees are similarly illegal?

If there is money in from someone and a random payout then it is gambling. |

I think you had a Liaison who thought it was a regular "lottery" machine - gambling requires _some_ sort of pay-in on the part of the gambler, even by the vague terms of the policy, otherwise it's just random generosity. _____________________

I agree. That makes no sense that it was nabbed. I've got a philanthropy attachment that does something similar and I can't imagine a good reason to confiscate it ![]() |

In fairness, I suppose its possible that the Liason stopped by simply to wish us well - and the money machine poofed of its own accord due to some strange technical reason.
I've just always assumed that the machine was a casualty of the gambling ban ![]() _____________________
