I was just wondering if SL has done any thing new to deal with Dual Core processors.
At present, I'm still going into the Task Manager and selecting a single processor for a ,,,,"hopefully",,, more trouble free performance in-world.
Any news or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

I thought they fixed this a while ago. Have you recently tried not setting the affinity?

To be honest,,,, I haven't really noticed much of a difference whether I have one or both processors on.
The reason I ask is due to the terrible evening I had last night on SL. Crashed over 6 times. Froze in place. Couldn't chat after a while. Sank into the ground in different sims, and I tried to have one processor set, and another time I just left both processors on.
It didn't seem to make a difference.

the processor issues were fixed so I dont think that is what the problem is might have been the other side causing problems. I wasn't on much last night I was busy playing with blender and only logged in to upload once and awhile but I didn't see anyone complaining of it in any groups or anything when I did log in so dont know. Anyhow I doubt its your CPU if it happens again tonight try a fresh install of the client otherwise have no idea Oh I couldn't use group chat last night kept giving me strange messages so that part I know existed and is not computer related others were having problems with this as well

I think they start prepping early for the the update It *is* uncanny how often this sort of thing does happens on a tuesday. The additional irony is that I'm currently having an ISP problem which I can't blame on LL and last night is the longest I managed to stay in-world without a lockup for over a week! There again, why shouldn't I blame them for that too? Grrrr! ... Woof .. WOOF!!

LL start 'updating' server code live in preparation to the actual day, they also restrict certain servers, so they can work on them (main one being the asset server which holds inventory databases). They have been doing this process ever since I've been in SL, only real difference was, there were less of us, sims were smaller/lighter in content, they did updates every week and the impact was less then. My how things have changed now.

been using the nicolaz client for the past month or so and havent had any reason to try squeezing performance out of it, so im not sure if ll have actually addressed the issue.

I find a massive improvment in FPS by setting affinity to a single processor. YMMV

I used to have to do this, but several versions ago I stopped noticing any difference. I now get a comfortable 50+ fps most anyplace, with both cores.
