If its on the mainland, the previous owner had no claim at all. If on an estate whole diff ball of wax...make nice if possible..land is still in previous owner's name.

It's only possible to resell land out from under the current resident if the land is on an island. If you buy mainland, it's yours and yours only.

Fistly, is this on the mainland or on an island? There is a fundamental difference between these two.

If it's on the mainland, then the next question would be whether the land really has been sold to your friend or rented out? This can be checked: Whom does the "About Land" dialog box list as owner?

If the land does not belongs to her, it's rented and the former owner can throw her off, although that wouldn't be nice. If she is owning the land, he may huff all he want. She will own the land till she sells it.

if it's on an island, it's like renting. (Well, it IS renting.)

Another tip: I would recommend to her to forget about these security gimmicks. They don't provide any real privacy, anyway, and are an annoyance to casual passerbys, if not configured carefully ... as evidenced by what happened. If she wants to be alone, she should build a skybox.

One of the advantages about the mainland... Your are a goddess/god beyond Linden.

But if this happened on rented the landlord is a big <bliep>

*Sticks to the mainland*

It's threads like this that make me cringe EVERY time I see a "it's better to rent" or "you are actually BUYING land on an island" post.

Yep, one simple mistake and that land you supposedly "bought" goes bye-bye.

I, too, will stick to the mainland, and advise everyone else to do so.

Thanks ever so much for your replies - it seems that my friend was 'sold' the land under false pretences and is actually renting after all :(((

Will have to hope that the landlord softens abit and doesn't boot her out....
