Dearly Darlings,

Some horrid person with a box on his head came into my home and kept beging me to touch him... This gave me the the willies big time. The lag was bad enough that I could not use the pull down window to eject/ban him and had to click on him to make him go away. It was an odd feeling as if my personal space were really being encroached upon. Thank God Jim Lumiere made a mop I can use to get rid of this avatar's vestigial aura.

Ever Yours,

Mrs. Showdog Tiger

Dearly Darling,

Why on earth would I do that in my own home? RL I'd have already picked out the new carpet. I'm a very good marksman. I think what got to me was the request for touching...I'm just not that kind of person.

Ever Yours,

It is always sad to hear this kind of things....

But I would have logged.... to return 15 minutes later, ban the person.... grab 10.000 L$ and go to my most beloved shop and SPEND IT.

I know, not much of help... but it helps.

Dearly Darling,

As a RL dog trainer one never backs off from the alpha position in training any dog. You do..chances are you're getting bit. Logging off was never an option. I help run an In-world charity...Spending money is not our goal. Getting it donated so we can give it to worth SL projects is!

I realize Show's older..but still even this gives me the creeps. You can't rape here as you really have to agree to the action. But having to touch someone against your will for any purpose..it's just wrong. And on one's own property...ugh! From what I uderstand these people are getting two Linden per touch. The companies using this form of advertising need to give their employees stricter guidelines. I for one won't be touching anyone I don't want to either. And obivously something needs to be done about lag.

'fave' conversation along those lines: just shopping, and a very new, very crudely modded male avi - the kind that looks like an undiagnosed case played with the sliders - eyes -reeeeeeeally- too big for his head... walks straight up and around to my front, just shy of bumping me, looks down at me for a few secs then types:
male: WERE U FROM
unflinching, i reply: no
male: WHY
me: i'm busy... i'm doing something else... you haven't even bothered to say hi or introduced yourself or try to be friendly... (or something along these lines; it's been awhile...)
male: HI
me: (nothing)
male: WERE U FROM
i continue shopping, ignore him, hearing once in awhile in the background as other women walk by...

And if you are shopping in a furniture store they crudely tell you to **** them on the bed right there. They have the nerve to be uspet when you say "Not in this century!"

I am a RL dog trainer myself. I worked and followed studies at one of Dutch most famous dog-schools (Martin Gauss... allthough I do not always agree with him). I worked many years at a local dogschool. I fully trained all my dogs (currently 2 Friese Stabij's, a Dutch pointer-breed).

Seems story can be hold for horses (my daughter and I have 4 horses... or rather 2 horses and 2 ponies). Show them you are weaker as them and they will not accept you as leader anymore. They loose respect and may run (litterally) over you.

In front of my animals I will always maintain my alpha position.... but that doesn't take away, that in front of those that close to me I have a lot of emotions and feeling... and I would have logged off. To get not more hurted.

The example of shopping was meant as doing something you like to do in SL. For me shopping belongs to that.

Donations for charity are good. I have given my share to that, in SL and in RL. But for me the main reason to be in SL is relax from a very busy RL.

Every person has her/his own way of dealing with things... and that is good *smiles*

Hold up - these people are getting PAID for getting people to touch the box on their head? So we might be seeing more of these? That has got to be in the top 10 list of the worst marketing ideas in SL.

Yep, I can see this becoming a problem. However, I really wouldn't want to buy anything from a business who used such a practice, in the same way I wont give money to any business who supports ad farms.

With a bit of luck people wont fall for it and it will die away as business owners realize it's not working. Fingers crossed.

While boxes on the head is good for SL nostalgia

If someone were using it for advertizing - they should have Rules for how their employees behave.

Obviously the harasser in the OP's comment doesnt deserve a job anywhere around other people.

Agree it's a dumb marketing idea. Doubt it would even fly in XXX areas, though who knows?

But look at the bright side: At least the box was on their HEAD...

this is a very odd thread...

when I was first in SL I remember being fascinated by people with boxes on their heads. It really made me think that there was something about SL that I just didn't understand. In fact, SL just seemed incredibly strange.

I kind of wish I still didn't understand it.

Yep, it's advertising. I saw one early yesterday morning (about 8AM or so, SLT) just outside a store i was at. It was so laggy in the store that i couldn't tp, so i had walked outside to get away from those uber-lag Mob-vends in the store (outside the mob-vend sensor range, the lag eases).

Box boy was just outside the store wandering back and forth. I could clearly see that the side of the box indicated it was advertising. And he begged me to click him. I refused because i get enough spammy advertising; I was certainly not going to assist this advertiser in spamming me by clicking the box. He flew off to bother someone else.
Sorry, but i didn't pay attention to who the ad agency was; to me it was unimportant since I was not going to accept their advertising.
