Hi to all!
I love this world, I try to learn everything about it, but it is so huge!
I want to get a premium acount and I want to buy land. A question always in my mind and can't figure out by myself : when you buy land, WHERE do you buy, HOW do you choose the area?
It would be nice from you to help me a bit, advices, anything would be appreciated!
Thanks a lot!

dont buy land right away learn about the game first because prices can be pretty ridiculous. Make sure to educate youreslf on the first land program etc there are often classes given on land and whatnot. Look under events. dont just jump in and buy land. but if you want to get an idea of what is around go into search and land sales area, but please dont buy anything until you understand the economy and how it works and what is a decent price and what is not and the ins and outs so you can make an informed purchase. as for where hehe the map is huge and getting larger everyday bye have fun slow down and learn to walk before you run

When you upgrade to premium you are entitled to a one time purchase of what is known as "First Land". It's an incentive to get people upgraded since you are guaranteed to pay 512 lindens for 512 square meters...........but beware of scammers who will try to trick you into buying land for more and calling it "first land". If you are not buying it from Linden Labs and it is more than 512 then it is not first land.......run away LOL. Now the down side............"First Land" is very scarce at the moment. LL says they are trying to open more up for the new premium accounts. And I believe they are.......but the growth rate of SL is way ahead of any first land releases. And since first land is so scarce any buyer really can't be too choosy about where it is. If you want to take the Lindens up on the offer then you have to take what you can get..........and don't hesitate either because someone else will grab it in a heartbeat. Now, if you are not set on "First Land" then your options are a little better but quite a bit more expensive. What type of land you want is entirely up to you. There are many residential areas with restrictions on businesses..........and then there are areas that restrict residential and only allow businesses. And, of course, there are lots in between the two. The price of the land well vary quite a bit........however you will be looking at land in the area of 10 to 15 lindens per square meter. And even higher. There are private sims that have nice places at competitive prices........but do some shopping and research. Most sim owners are honest and very fair......but there are some that are not. Read the covenants...........make sure you are really buying the land and not leasing or renting. It's anarchy out there..............it's a shame but if you are careful and not impulsive you will be okay. Oh, I forgot you can buy land on private sims without becoming Premium in SL. And if you are premium and buy on a private sim you don't forfiet your "first land" opportunity either. But if you buy land on Linden sims (mainland) that is not "first land" then you lost that opportunity. What I'd do.........become a premium member and rent (or remain homeless) and take my time to look around for some land I wanted in a place I wanted. Keep a constant eye out for first land but not locked on it..............it's not only scarce but most is not really prim (in parcels with lots of lag, etc.). Look at the private sims and look in the mainland using the search button at the bottom of the screen. I got lucky and bought first land when it was plentiful. So I know not all first land is less than quality. What I looked for (and this can apply to any land) was open space around the plot. I'm on mainland so I couldn't choose residential or commercial but I did look for places that had houses that were on big plots (4048 square meters or larger)........I figured it the person who owned the land was paying for more than just a minium lot and took the time to build a nice house on it then they were not likely to convert to a huge club or mall. That's not to say they won't sell or change their mind but I've been on my land for a year and it's still a nice quiet place without much lag. I also have three sides of my land being Linden Protected Land.....no one can build there and it's not likely that the land will come up for sale either. But, like I said..............I got lucky.

What Peggy said. However, I would posit that you should wait for first land unless you have a project that absolutely cannot wait. If you are patient, first land will come - just keep searching every now and then it'll be there. Since you are dead set on becoming premium you may as well sign up and start collecting stipend.

It would make more sense to wait until first land was available before signing up to become premium, as the stipend is less than the amount you would be paying each month.

Sorry, but if you do that, you'll be lucky to find any by the time you've finished upgrading - First Land really shifts that quick!

I've upgraded a month ago and I'm still looking and recently started to understand how things work concerning prices, where to go etc. Patience is the keyword here before jumping in and buying something that's way overpriced. As for first land..I've given up hope, hopefully LL will get some new lots but I bought a house yesterday for me and my SL love and I want to move in and start decorating, furnishing, living, loving!! (ok, I sounded impatient there)

So what happened with those land-swooping bots buying new land in what was it.. one second approximately? Whatever happened with those? I know I read at least one discussion on it. I got my first land long before those showed up, anyway, just thinking about those trying to get theirs these days. Just curious, as I don't see it being mentioned much anymore.

I originally felt this way too, but since he is intent on it, he may as well get the 1k bonus right now and then the 300/wk. I didn't go premium until I had my first land, but I was a little ambivalent about it until I saw the land actually appear. Then I decided to go for it. If I had been intent on it from the get-go, I would have appreciated the stipend while I waited.

This doesn't make much sense to me, you could buy more L$ for the price of paying for the premium account before needed. If you sign up for a premium account you will get 1,200 per month for your $9.95, if you used the same money to buy L$ you would buy 2,586. The 1,000 one time bonus you will get whenever. I wont be upgrading until I can buy land or will be wasting my money, unless someone can tell me any other benefits. Denis, being new too, I have decided to rent some for now, gives me time to find exactly what I want. That way you don't rush into something you regret and you don't need a premium account. I am now renting by the week.

I assume that he's not going to pay 9.95 a month, but rather that he's going to pay the whole year and get the discount. Either way, I would generally agree that he should wait, but since he's intent on it ... whatever.

Thanks a lot to all of you! I'll read a couple of times your answers, think about it, spend some more time in SL, read and read again! All this is big for a newbee! Thanks again!
