Camp Chair EXPLOIT!!!!

Just caught someone in world using a device of some sort to use multiple camp chairs at one time, he was taking money from one chair and using thie device to funnel money to another account from another chair.

Can you give a little more detail so we can possibly come up with a solution. And what make of camp chair was it? As some are more secure than others.

several makes of camping chairs don't handle sim crashes well. Some chairs will continue to have their last written floating text on system reset. So for example, if I was on a chair during the crash, when the sim came up it might say "Winter Ventura has been sitting for 2 hours and has earned $25"

Meanwhile, when the sim resetts, perhaps I get kicked off SL, and relog to my home. I manually have to teleport back to the campsite. I walk into the place, and see that all the seats are empty. So I hop on the nearest one, which goes into reset mode and properly says "Winter Ventura has been sitting for 5 minutes and has earned $1".

I think it is very likely that something like this is what you witnessed happening. I have seen it myself and laughed at appearing to be on 2 chairs at once. Frankly though, the funniest camping experience still has to be the day that a land wowner set her chairs "physical"... and my friends and I began considering scooping the chairs into a vehicle of some kind, and 'stealing them' We had all sorts of fun pushing each other around though.

No SIM crash involved. The owner of the chairs has found payment info for a small group of avies over a period of time that have never been in the club. When anyone tried to use the apparently empty chairs they could not as someone was already on them and it wasn't the owner reset them that the message that avieX was paid YL$ appears. There have also been others in the area that have seen a couple of avies camping there and the phantom campers are suspected alts of these avies.

I don't have a whole lot more information but there is very strong evidence that some sort of camp chair exploit is going on and I wanted to get a warning out to watch for suspicious activity. Unfortunetly it seems if there is a way to exploit of cheat in SL someone will use it.

Well if they're able to "sit" on the chairs.. then they're very likely giving traffic to the owner off the land in some manner. It's possible that they're using an AO that is shoving them through the ground, or wearing an invisibility sheild of some kind, or they could actually BE on the chair and not have downloaded properly for you to see them.

UNtil you can show us some kind of example that this is happening, where we can go view the situation ourselves and figure out what's going on.. you can't call it an exploit. It's possible that something has gone on with the sit-position on the chairs, and they avatars could be 299m away from the chair but still registering as "sitting" on it.

The simple fact is.. if this land owner is getting debited for traffic he's not seeing.. he really should seriously consider getting some new chairs. The ones at LostDog seem to be reasonably bulletproof, and don't payout to the first person who sits on them after a sim crash... like some systems. Also I highly reccommend the "CampMaster" system.. which allows people to camp while roaming around the land. A steal at 1500 L$.. for as many avatars as you're willing to pay at a time. tons of great features.

And sadly, no commissions on sales for me.. I just love using it from the camper's perspective.

If it is in fact a hack then it should be possible to detect it.

As a scripter I would be willing to look into this and write a new script that would be harder to hack in such a manner. Contact me via PM or IM in-world, and we can discuss specifics.

I heard LLs was changing the way traffic is dealt thats probably why we now have all these NPCs being developed for release on SL.

The noobs will love it and be able to shoot at anything and anyone safe in the knowledge they could claim it was an NPC if abuse reported "Sorry i thourght this was WoW" lol

yes... now just distribute the hack on newbie island and, pretty soon, they'd find that they can't afford the camping chairs, regardless of the exponential-increase-in-traffic they bring! muahahhah!
