Group Object Recovery

Is there a way to recover ownership of an object after it's been deeded to a group? Here's the problem:

I just completed building a sim for another owner. 14000 prims, no matter how they're linked up, will take hours to transfer, and getting both me and the person who owns the sim online at the same time is going to be difficult. If I deeded the objects to his group (i.e., a group he is owner of), would there be a way for him to retrieve a copy of the builds at his leisure WITHOUT setting the builds to "Everyone can copy?"

After two and a half years, you'd think I'd know the answer to this question, but the issue has never come up before. (I'm also open to alternatives.)

Thanks,

Kam

NOTE TO LINDENS: A "Sell to" feature on objects--like we have on land--would solve this problem neatly.

A Couple Ideas.

My best suggestion at this point, is that you have the owner set the land to access by you and him only, then set your items to be for sale for a suitable price. Is this "sim" a private-island sim, or a mainland sim? This would be easier on an private-island sim.

Oh, another idea: Have him set the land to for sale to you, probably for free, then you buy it, and immediately set it for sale to him, for a suitable price, set to sell with owner`s objects included. If need be, this can be performed with parcels small enough to not raise your tier, assuming that you have any unused tier available. Again, this would be easier on an private-island sim than on a mainland sim.

My only idea is to go through, make everything copy, then set the items to sell for 0L and he can buy them.

Oh, I do have another idea! You two can join a group, deed the objects to the newly created group, then you can leave the group and he *should* have ownership of all the objects to set to whatever group he wants.

That should work, shouldn't it?

BEWARE of selling objects with the land! Maybe it's fixed now, but I gave up on this feature because of some particularly nasty bugs in it.

The worst bug was that although the the entire build would appear to transfer, if the new owner would try to modify it, they would be denied. Upon closer inspection by unlinking, you could see that, in fact, only the root prim of a linked set had transferred and that the original owner still owned all of the child prims.

Eek! Have you bug-reported it? Has anyone tested this lately?

Yep, of course, I bug reported it. And I was able to get a couple of my customers to report it, too. But honestly, this particular feature doesn't seem to be very high on LL's list of priorities.

I haven't tested it recently.

Another bug with it was that sometimes linked objects would come unlinked during the transfer and only the root prim would transfer. At least you could see what was happening in this case.

The sim is private, but in actuality, the owner is leasing it from someone else. (This is a case of someone buying a sim from Dreamland instead of LL.) So, I'm not sure whether private island ideas will work or not. We can try it with a test plot and see what happens.

BTW, I've had the same problem with the "sell objects with land" as others have reported here, but not in over a year. We'll try it (if it's possible on this sim) and see if it works with a small test plot--and I'll post the results here.

I haven't actually tried but I don't think ban lines would keep anyone from being able to buy things set for sale on a plot they can't enter.

If you do deed everything to a group (with the proper 'next owner' permissions if needed) he will be able to set things for sale himself and buy them one at a time at his leisure. If a price other than L$ 0 is set the money will be deposited into the group and paid out as group dividend so watch out for that.

It is easier to block an entire private island sim than it is to block a mainland parcel. Since this is a private island sim, it can work. Provided no-one else needs to be able to get in who isn`t also trusted.
