I just started yesterday and I am having such problems. I was at the beginner area and was teleported to I don't know where. So I posted here and was helped to get to the Orientation area. I am not sure it was Newbie people though, there were people there now with new clothes, carrying objects and there was even someone who looked like a giant Cartman from South Park. It wasn't the same beginner area that I had been at before.
Anyway, I managed to finish doing the tutorials where you click on the Hands. Then I was at the white building where it had Exit signs on it? I knew there was supposed to be a Help Island next so I clicked on the sign to teleport me.
But I don't think I am at Help Island. It says I am at Plum and when I walk around it changes to Grey and Lime areas. Is this Help Island? I need to learn how to play but I can't find anything to help me. There are no hands to click on here. I've seen people but they were not Newbies like me. I really am thinking I am in the main area now.
Can I just delete my account and start over again with a new person? Is that possible? Or will Second Life not let me since I would be using the same credit card to register?

Hi Jobie, there's only so long you want to spend at Help Island anyway. If you've read the tutorials why not just explore? Talk to other people. If you are in the Mesede area I'd be glad to talk, I've met a lot of newbies in the last week and talked with them. Other residents will be glad to help too I'm sure. Also check out the New Citizens Plaza. You'll find it in Search. And don't be scared by people wearing odd outfits, it's a feature of SL

Hello Jobie; Unfortunately it seems somehow you clicked the wrong sign, and entered Second Life instead of the Help Island. The good news is that the Mainland DOES have a good place to go that can help, it is not Help Island, but there are people there that can help, as well as more freebies than are offered at Help Island itself. The place is named NEW CITIZENS INC. To get there, follow these easy steps. ^^ 1. Click the "Search" button on the bottom of your window, it'll bring up a window with about 9 tabs on top (Classified, Places, People, Groups, and so on) 2. Click the tab marked 'Places' 3. There's a text field you can enter stuff into. Enter NEW CITIZEN 4. Once you hit enter you should get some places appearing on the field to the left of the Search field. Just double-click on the one that says New Citizens Plaza, Kuula (I am at work so I am not 100% positive of the name) -- and you'll be teleported to there. 5. Look for anyone with an 'NCI Helper' title over their name... there should always be at least one there, and they can help you get started. If in the rare case you can't find one, just ask for help out loud and at the least, someone that's there probably knows an NCI Helper that is around somewhere.

Hi Jobie, and welcome to Second Life Yes, you are right ... you are now in the main land. You will not be able to travel back to the Help Island. However, don't worry. You can learn as much, if not more, on the main land. And there are lots of people here to help you. In fact, Help Island and the welcome areas tend to be rather crazy and can evenbe frustrating for new residents. Here are a couple of tips that may help you: 1. Selecting World/Teleport Home from the main menu will take you back to the spot where you first appeared in the world. You can use this if you get lost. 2. The "Search" button on the bottom of the screen can be used to find places of interest. Be sure to click on the "Places" tab, enter your key words, and press the search button. 3. You can search for welcome areas on the main grid, such as the Ahern welcome area. You will often find official Second Life Mentors hanging around the welcome areas and they will be glad to offer you help. However, the welcome areas also tend to very active places full of people chatting and demonstrating their latest animations and sound files. The welcome areas can be very laggy. If this frustrates you, see my next recommendation ... 4. Search for "The Shelter" and teleport there. Here you will find a friendly environment for new residents and lots of people to offer help and encouragement. Jobie, if you are still having trouble, please IM me. I am a mentor and I would be happy to answer your questions or help you get aquainted with Second Life. Above all, remember to have fun! Welcome to Second Life Jobie!

Thank you so very much everyone! I managed to find the New Citizens area and looked around a bit before I had to come to work. I was so sure I had ruined things by not finding the Help Island. I hope I can find info on how to do things here. I did see many people, but I am extremely shy to talk to people so didn't say anything to anyone, lol! I do best if it is a group and I can hang off to the side and listen, lol! Anyway, thanks again, I am going to see if there are notecards at the New Citizens place to tell me how to use the objects and clothing I've picked up.

Welcome, Jobie. You can take your own time and learn in your own way - there are all kinds of people in SL from the most social to the shyest to people who have a few close friends and other than that are not social at all. Personally, I am each of those at different times I know you are going to have a blast!

Hi I think I am in the same situation as Jobie... I just started 2 days ago and have NO idea what to do. I dont know about a welcome area or new citizen area or where it is or how to get to it. I have asked numerous times in chat on how to move around, teleport, change my avatar (which I did get an answer to) I have tried the flying thing and ended up in someones very nice house but cant get out now. No one talks to me when I come on and try to find out how to do things. I am sure it can be annoying at times but how else do you figure out how things work here? I think I must have missed something somewhere. I did not have a greeter when I came on (it was about 3am eastern time) or any orientation so I am totally lost...I would like to learn more about this game than just how to change my hair LOL. Any help would be appreciated greatly!

Welcome Sun.
All the advice that was giving to Jobie should be the same for you. I would highly reccomend using the search feature in you top toolbar to find either The Shelter or New Citizens Plaza. Both are great places where people help out newbies.
