Tutorial disappeared :(

Hello!

I am a new resident still on Orientation Island. I had just started doing the Tutorial.

Being in the middle of the Appearance part of it (had just bought some clothing from a vending machine), the tutorial disappeared and I found no way to get it back.

Can someone help me please restarting the tutorial? I hadn't yet completed it.

Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: Found this http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=398 :) Got my tutorial back :) Following the advice in that article I only found one entry searching for "HUD", instead of two though, I wonder what I missed...probably the dialog box welcoming me to orientation island!?

UPDATE: Lost my tutorial again and this time searching for "HUD" doesn't return any results :( How do I get my tutorial back?

UPDATE: Following advice from these forums I teleported to "Orientation Island Public", but that also didn't bring the tutorial HUD back :( And I have no idea how to get back to my original Orientation Island now (which is different from this public one). Please someone help me out!

Contact a Linden via Help Request, and ask them to send you back to the first Orientation Island.
Otherwise you could always stay in Orientation Island Public, and learn how to use SL there :)

Thanks for the advice...sounds like a good idea.

I hope the Help Request people can solve my problem...

In the meantime I also tried clearing things up, by deleting all my inventory. Kind of a last resort measure. Hope I understood things right, and (except for the missing HUDs), there's nothing in people's inventory in the beginning except what is also permanently accessible via the library!?

You might also post a thread on the SL Mentors/SL Greeters forum asking for assistance?

I have no idea how to get back to my original Orientation Island now (which is different from this public one).

Unfortunately, you can't return to that first Orientation Island. Leaving is a one-way ticket to SL. But the Public sites can help you with just about everything you need.

Good luck -- and welcome!

Well, thanks for your suggestions.

I came as far as getting the OIHUD back from a Linden helper and getting back teleported to where I started.

I was not able to get the New Intro HUD or get a clear answer, if there's anything in residents' inventories in the beginning (except these two HUDs) that is not in the library. Does anyone know?

All in all, this guy was friendly and helpful, but not too informed about things.

Maybe it was me who accidentally deleted the HUDs, although I lost them before I started cleaning up my inventory (really bad move, I see that now). And I don't think I just directly trashed them...

All in all, I still feel kind of unsure about the whole thing...kind of like I got it screwed up right from the start. Might have been my fault, might have been not...

It you are into things like this, it looks to me as if you have more experinece than most "fully educated" newbies when they leave Orientation Island already :)

I have done the Orientation Island thing again when my alt was first born, but I was not able to complete alle the tutorials, because it simply was not clear what I had to do to get all the ticks on the HUD.

In the end I decided to TP away from Orientation Island and forget about the tutorials, but this annoying HUD sometimes appears again in the screen when I work with my alt. Maybe I can use the tips from this thread to get rid of it! :)

I don't have any experience at all...

I just feel bad about having screwed up things right from the start somehow...maybe I am missing some items now that were in my inventory. I am missing the New Intro HUD for sure and maybe other things...

Maybe I shouldn't worry about that, many of you will probably think so, but for some reason I do... :(

Whatever, wrote a support email, maybe these guys can give me some answers.

Janine,

I can understand that you're frustrated, but please know that there are many people in the game who will be more than willing to help you, and answer all the questions you have. Everybody was a beginner not too long ago, after all, and it's the people that make Second Life, not the HUDs.

I'd recommend The Shelter and the NCI welcome areas as first places to look around, ask questions, and collect your first set of stuff from the freebie boxes. Look in Search->Places (or ->All), search for "The Shelter" and "NCI" respectively. I'm sure there are more good places for new players, but these two I know.

Maybe make another freebie account (alt) and go through the tutorials again that way?

Thanks for all your suggestions and help!

Maybe I will find my way around...

I had already thought about creating another account...but it'll be a free one only if I lie about the question, whether it's my first one, and use some other email address etc., maybe nobody cares about that...

Okay, finally I solved my problems by creating an alt account to check out the tutorial and missing items again. To be fair I have already cancelled that (free) account again after giving all the missing stuff to this account.

So what did I miss?

There was no New Intro HUD (maybe it doesn't exist anymore, I read about it on the web).
I got a new OIHUD Rev BS60.
From the tutorials on orientation island I mainly got a chainmail shirt, some body shapes and notecards with some info on it. And a "hula" gesture.

So I had missed nothing major, but I am still glad I know that now and I have my items complete. Not mentioning I could do the whole tutorial :)

Guess, I can go on living now...

Well, it helped me do the first steps in Second Life. It was a guided tour with some tasks to complete. It was about walking/flying/vehicles, appearance, communication and search.

I guess, if you know all the basics, you won't miss anything.

As I later found out, it only works on your original orientation island anyway (not on orientation island public), so you won't need it now anymore, since afaik you can't get back there anyway.

Yes, it's a (relatively) new thing; they introduced it a few months ago, I believe. Orientation Island has been completely redesigned, and includes an HUD for keeping track of what you have done. Orientation Island Public has not yet been updated; it's still the old Orientation you probably remember.
