It seems that I have put a few items underground and I can't get them back up. I don't have edit-land ability to lower the land to get them that way. Can anyone help me?

ctrl - alt - shift -5
will remove all the land and you can get your items, same again to toggle back (this is not server side so you're not really removing all the land).

If you know roughly where they are, put a prim down and make sure you have "edit" still active.
Then click and drag a box over the area, and you should find you highlight 'hidden things' underground.
You can then use the Z slider to raise them up above the ground.
