Here is something i`ve been wondering awhile-

How do you feel about tags on your clothing in SL?

I have only seen them on menswear, and mainly on teeshirts.

Do tags, or imo branding, hinder you from buying clothing in SL?

When I was a bit newer they was a lady who made clothing i loved but it had their name all over it (Not a small tag, but their name large imprinted on the attire) and it stopped me from buying. Now aday I do see some small tags with the brand name and depending who it is I usually do mind but I think i`d rather NOT have it, i feel to much like a walking advertisement. If i dont necessarily like all the store has and i just want one shirt i dont want to walk around with their name on me..... So in those cases a tag stops be from buying a shirt.

What about you? Do you not mind a small brand name or would you rather just have the clothing and rather the designers keep their names on the packaging/inventory clothing title only?

When its done like a lil label I really like it .. like on the back of a pair of jeans or on the inside of a shoe , it makes it more realistic and the fact that its an in world only brand makes it even cuter to me. Like I have this logo bracelet from Paper Couture that I wear all the time and I really like it when ppl use their brands the way brands outside of sl do.

However I am not a big fan of being a walking billboard I dont like brand names all over the stuff I get, I have never really understood why anyone not working for a place would care to wear something with a brand name all over it unless it was just really cute or free :p .

I have a paid of jeans with a Dazzle label "stitched" on the back, it's fairly obvious, but no different than you might get in RL so it adds something in that case :).

I'd go pretty much the same way as Six. If it's there to actually add something to whatever it is, then it's fine, but if it's main purpose is commercial/advertising it's just going to be very tacky.

With logos I guess I'm somewhere in the middle (ie store logo on a handbag), if it's acutally something that fits with the item and it remains tasteful it's probably fine, but if the logo starts to dominate the actual item you went too far :).

(Edited to add that I can probably think of a few situations where I might want something that screams "I like this brand!", but then it would be something special, and not regular wear, and as Six pointed out maybe it's just best reserved for freebies :p)

I have some clothes from Nanogunk (forgive me if the name is spelled incorrect). her clothes have a small mark with her shopname. As long it a small mark, I have no real problesm with that... it is kinda nice, like "He you there... you see? I wear real <company name> clothes!!" :P

Edit: Now don't get the idea to raise the prices of your clothes when they have a label like described ^^ :P

Mine is a depends:

If the prices stay the same and the tag is a small one... yes.

Otherwise... BOO!!

You know, I'm sick of following my dreams, man. I'm just going to ask where they're going and hook up with 'em later. - M.H.

Thats exactly my problem with it.

If i go to a shop i dont necesarily want to be like "hey i wear __ clothes", i dont want to promote them i just like the ONE shirt, i wont buy it in those cases if it has a tag.

Ps- some ppl raise prices cos it has their tag on it? Sheesh, this is SL lol

If it looks good and is fairly inexpensive I'll buy it.

Aside from the fact that it's very hard to include a small, unobtrusive label in a readable form on a 512 x 512 pixels large texture that doesn't allow altoo many details – I'm totally against branding, be it in RL or in SL. Why should I pay for a company's advertising space? If I'm to walk around as a living advertising column, I'd like to be paid for it, not the other way round. I'd feel like a race driver covered in logos.
I may be eccentric, but in RL I go as far as unstitching and removing the leather patches with the company logo from the backside of jeans.

Not exactly clothing - I re-made the logo for my shoppe into prims, and turned that into a choker and earrings, which I sell for 0L$. It's fairly down-key and the logo itself is just an abstract squigly thing, and I see a lot of people picking it up and even the occasional one wearing it in-world. So while that jewelry set is not obviously "branded", I think it's a nice way to get a bit of exposure, and the people that pick it up get some jewelry for free, great for newer or frugal avatars. So far no one has complained, but I'm not forcing anyone to wear it either :p

I don't care for it and would not purchase something which has a logo dominating the item (nor will I in RL for that matter).

I've toyed with the idea of having my shop's initials on the pocket of a pair of jeans (something small to be sure). If something was subtle I may consider it if it didn't take away from the look of the item.

Most of the time I can tell a designer by the outfit itself, or I just ask the person wearing it.

It really depends. I'm mostly of the "anti advertising" person. I hate being a walking billboard after paying good money for something. That being said if it is unobtrusive (I've seen black shirst with tiny black logos...think a mens were company does it..IZOD?) or free then sure. Free is a way of saying "I'll give this to you and you basicly walk around showing off the brand name". Noone will wear a free shirt if they hate the company. Also "memories" are nice. Like rock T-shirts are the same thing BUT usually I buy them when I go to a concert so they have toour dates, remind me of the fun, etc.

Inworld I think if done with taste and not accessivly overcharge it could be good (Can see someone now charging 50 lindens for "jeans" and "<brand> jeans" next to it for 750. I'd walk out the door.). On the other hand I really don't see that type of issue happening much in SL so I doubt it would be an issue.

EDIT: Just as a laugh..picture a gorean silk with GAP on the back side.

Loathe them. I've actually been turned off my clothes I liked on SL when I found out that the designer branded their store name/logo all over it. Unless it's prim and mod, and then I just remove or retexture the offending logo.

If you want to do it I suggest using an extremely simplistic logo and putting it in a non noticeable spot. Say you made jeans and you want to replace the leather levis logo with a [GK] or something, that's ok. It's when people graffitti their stuff into their textures it makes me groan.

Why not... Brand name recognition is important, is it more important than style...? No I do not believe it is, that said, a logo is expected, just not a walking billboard, THAT, is plain tacky and very unprofessional (as a designer if you can't get your styles/image across without ruining the actual piece you are creating then you are in the wrong business or in need of serious tutorials!) Besides, you can't right click on an avatar once they are wearing an article that you may pesonally find attractive to determine it's creator (pardon my iggnorance if i am wrong, in which I ask that someone please correct me on how to do such a thing) therefore it is vital to that particular designer that they apply a signature to anything they create so that it is recognized as theirs, big logo's where appropriate, small when called for, but big on everything, all the time, is (here comes a personal opinion) a sign that the designer lacks any confidence or skill in promoting/creating their items:D

That would be pretty if we could click clothing/attachments on others and get the creators name...like we can with objects.
