House disaster...

Last night while trying to drag a picture to a frame, I somehow plastered my face all over the floor...very, very funny stuff. Luckily, my friend came and fixed it - then told me to lock the house so I couldn't do it again. So I did that, and suddenly the doors flew off the house (they were confused?). We found the doors flying nearby and set to work putting them back on the house...no sooner had we started the work, the entire house - and I kid you not - flew up into the sky. We both dropped to the sand staring up at what was my house...doors all still in their original places, except for the ones that flew off mysteriously.

So we thought, ok, time to rez a new copy of the house. Not so simple....all the texture work I had done was now gone of course.

So back to piecing the original house back together, which we did after a couple hours. Now however, the whole house is off kilter and pictures are being cut into even though the furniture looks fine  So if you are still reading, any advice for getting it back to where it was?

Perhaps the builder would be able to help with providing proper rotation coordinates? At this point, I am ready to scrap the whole thing and try again even if that means re-texturing everything.

Thoughts?

The rotation coordinates will depend on how you have orientated the whole build. If you are looking to fix these probs instead of put out a fresh copy, you just need some knowledge of building. If you are in world at the moment, IM me, and I'll take a look.

I've helped a customer who dragged the wrong texture onto a surface of their house before. It's usually not that hard to fix, if you have mod permissions and if you are willing to temporarily give an experienced Builder mod rights to your stuff. The builder may need to help if the texture you replaced was one that he owns and you don't. Most builders are willing to fix glitches like that for their customers.

As for it flying apart when you locked the build - that is just plain strange! Sounds like it must have been a scripting error in the door scripts. I lock builds all the time, with commercial scripted door and windows and with my self-scripted ones, and have never had that happen.

Now, I have had door scripts that had to be reset after they were moved, or else they would fly off to odd positions the first time they were used. The NDE door scripts are wonderful, but they do have that bug when used in sliding door mode. If you fail to reset the door script, it doesn't hold the correct value for it's default position, and the movement calculations go off.

First - thanks to both of you. I won't be in world until much later on today so there's nothing I can do about it now but yes, I am very frustrated.

I sincerely think I might just have to scrap it and start over because once we fixed the texture issue (ie my face is no longer my floor :o), the sliding patio doors flew off (yes must have been confused scripts). But by far the strangest thing was the house flying into the air for no reason. We were literally both standing there....having done nothing at all

Now, everything is off because we didn't realize the house wasn't positioned correctly and we moved all the doors around to match the house's current position. If I move it again, the doors may freak out again

I am not in-world right now, Hiro though I wish I were ;) Thank you for the offer - perhaps I will look for you when I get home later tonight.

Best,

I don't mean to laugh, but that was a really funny story, picturing it.

I hope you get everything worked out!

If the hosue is fine, but for rotation, you can rez a copy of teh house (sounds like it's Copy from your description) and get the Rotation Co-ods from that to use on your retextured house (Though you may have to rez in a snadbox and write down all the data if you don't have enough prims on your land)

Either way, I feel you're in for a bit of work to fix.

Lastly, this may be a bug with building that only shows with those door scripts and the object being locked. I would suggest sending in a Bug Report when you find time listing the exact name of the house as well as any scripts you added to it. The tech-heads may, or may not, be able to figure out what happened, but worth a shot to prevent it from ever happening again.

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

Possibly connected to the 'flying house syndrome' is an incident that happened to me the other day whilst placing a prefab.

I (stupidly) managed to delink the whole house, but decided it was not an issue, I was only about to rotate it a little. So I selected the whole house, held down CTRL and nudged the blue axis ring.

Well guess I was a little heavy handed, the house spun, and when I released it it was splayed out into a rather artistic flower shape. Alterntive prims all around the outside had spun at different angles. Beautifully symetrical, just no longer house shaped, hehe.

It was kinda purty, two passers-by stopped to ask me how I had managed it.

I would have included a picture, but I have absolutely no idea how to use the 'insert picture' thing here. Anyone care to offer instructions? It is certainly not intuitive.

When you get the post screen up there's a little yellow square with mountains,
on mouse over you will see 'Insert Image'.
click and enter a url to your image in the window. - http://www.xxx.com/xxx.jpg

You will need to have your pic uploaded to the web already.
But there are free sites around for this, just Google.

See? :D
But mind the size as you can 'blow up' the forum, 500 pixel wide max?
