It's a neat trick. As I stated on Jeff's BLOG, I have some concerns about how it was done.

First, the script seems to be uploading a webpage snapshot as a texture. If so, that’s an example of “automated resource creation.” Philip and Cory have stated repeatedly that automated resource creation is not something they want to allow. Has Linden Lab changed its stance on the issue? If so, do they plan to allow all users to enjoy ARC, or did they grant a special exemption for this project?

Second, LSL2 offers no method for performing programmatic texture uploads. Did Jeff have access to special script tools to perform this? If so, will the tools be made available to everyone or were the tools made available for this project alone?

I'm a bit ...rankled.. to think that a large corporate customer like Amazon.com may have been granted special powers to do something "amazing" that any user could have done years ago, given the tools of ARC and programmatic texture uploads.

Say it aint so.

EDIT: NM. I see now that it's done using Quicktime. Conspiracy mode off.

This is an answer to paulie Femto`s question. Please link it.

paulie, I`ve followed your link to Jeff`s blog, and read his entry. He is NOT using Automatic Resource Creation [which term, as I understand it, DOES include scripted creation of prims!], but rather is using the Media Texture feature. The resources he is creating automaticaly are OUTSIDE Second Life, and are never imported as resources, but only as media. This is why ALL such prims on his place have the same image. [I assume they must, not yet having visited to see for myself, but the screen shots clearly show this to be the case.].

Thanx for helping each other on here -- moving this to Resident Answers in case you want to discuss mutually further. :)

Kisa Naumova showed me a similar thing with Flickr inworld.
