Linking alt to primary account

I recently created an alternate avatar. I remember reading somewhere that you could link it to your primary account during setup but I never saw any option to do that during the creation process. How do I link it?

They share a common user.

The only thing you can do to 'link' an alt to your main account is to enter the same payment and real world information for both accounts. For example, log in to this website as the alt, and edit your payment info to add the same credit card that you used to create your main account.

i suspect the OP is asking if he can link the inventories of a main and an alt.

No, you can't share either US$, L$, or inventories with an alternate account. All are separate.

One - if you use the same email address etc and pay for your alt then the two are "linked" (though not inworld).

Two - sharing: you can pay your alt any L$ you want from your main account, or vice versa, plus you can transfer any item that is not No Transfer from your inventory. And as your payment details are the same, then you are effectively "sharing" USD.

Of course. But if you go into Account Details, your alt and you will have two separate accounts and amounts. For example, Oryx has roughly USD 15 and L$17000 right now. Her alt, poor thing, has USD 0 and L$780. Two completely separate accounts.

Make a group and make you and your alt owners of the group. Make that group own all off your land. And make your alt co-owner of all of your important groups. Get the main and the alt a PixleTrix storage dresser and put all of their transferrable items in them and allow each one access to each. Go to Mystical Cookie's store and get each avatar a Global ATM Server ( very cheap - under $500L). Allow each other to have a atm card so you can transfer funds easily. This sytem is supported for free with a website that you can log into and change most information on your vendors. Add your alt to the management group.

True, but I think she meant that they can't access each other's inventory and balances directly...my alt can't use what my main has without me first sending it to her, and then my main loses the use of it unless I send it back again.

There used to be a way to register as an alt, this was only possible when creating the account. The only significance of doing so was that you had to pay LL a $9.95 one-time alt fee for each new account. Your accounts were never actually linked in any tangible way. I don't think there's ever been any announcement about a policy change, and the LL knowledge base still says there's an alt fee, but I haven't seen a way to be a "legal" alt in registration for many months. Hell, depending on which portal you use to sign up, I don't think you always have a way to give payment info at sign-up either.

EDIT: There also used to be a 5-account-per-HOUSEHOLD limit, which LL has officially lifted.

When? It wouldn't let me make a 6th alt a few weeks back.

You can create as many as you want. Not sure why it won't let you.

You can still only have 5 per email account, but they don't care how many you have altogether.
