If it's a freebie, the script might be mod-able. If so, edit the item, go to the content pane, and open the script.
If you understand the script well enough, you might be able to figure out how it is supposed to work.
Otherwise browse through it looking for where it says "newbie" and change that to your desired text. Save the changes and reset the script if necessary to get the new text to show.
That work?

Ava, I wish I new where the script is, lol, that is actually the problem, if I find the script I guess I can easily edit the text. This is not a regular object - you can't click on it to open and edit the content, it's just a floating text above my head.

Don't worry, the object is there, you just can't see it.
First, highlight transparent. You can do that from the view menu, or by pressing ctrl-alt-T. Transparent things are now a cloudy red. See it? If so, you can edit it.
If you still don't see it, it might be small and inside you. I've never checked this, but I think hiding your av will let you see any prims inside you. To hide you av, press ctrl-alt-shift-4 (or cmd-alt-shift-4 on a mac). You should disappear (along with any other av in your sight). Pressing the same keys will bring you back. You can also do this from the Client menu, under Rendering.
Do you see it now?

You can find it if you go to your inventory, and in the textbox near the top of the inventory type in the phrase "worn" (without the quote marks). That should highlight your inventory items that you are wearing and allow you to "not wear" it.

usually, in the chat bar, you type
title colour whatyouwantittosay
so.. for example
title red I am not a newbie
if you are missing the colour out i dont think it would work. Try that

I find that the best way to find the things you're wearing is to search for
(worn
Because I have a number of items with the text "worn" in them, but none with the open paren as well.
In any case, the OP must be wearing a title object, because removing the object would make the title go away.
There's a popular freebie called "fliptitle" and it allows you to change the title. IIRC, you can omit the color and it still works. However, if you wanted your title to be "red baron", you'd have to specify the color or you'd just get "baron" in red.

WOW, you gave me so many helpful tips a had to write down everything! Ed Gobo and Learjeff Innis, thanks for your advise, although I do not have problems finding this item, I was wondering for some time what is the fastest way to find all the items I wear at the moment inside my inventory - typing " worn" limits the results to what you really need . AWM, the name of the item is "Adjustable Title" so I had no doubt it can be edited, the only question was how to do this as it appeared to be not clickable. Ava, I followed your advise too, it was very interesting because I've never used "highlight transparent" function before. At first it looked like the title is not highlighted but I noticed a red line not so far away from it that was moving when I was moving, I clicked on it and it was really IT! Unfortunately I could not find the title inside of the script, I checked several times, I'm not familiar with scripting, the only thing I know is - I can find a line and replace the text but it just was not there. Nina, Nina, Nina, your "title blahblah" (no slash in front of it) worked like a charm - I love simple things - they are beautiful! And thanks a LOT for the Titler you sent me in world, it is just 1 prim (my original one is 15 prims!?) and the hovering text shows you exactly what to do, love it!

From: Mia Lian (my original one is 15 prims!?) Mia, 15 prims for a titler is a bit much. It must have other abilities. Possibly allowing multiple colors within your title. Which, if so, would be more complicated to use, and should have had help text of some sort to make it user friendly. It could easily have been setup to display to you upon attachment how to display help information. And the controlling script could have been in any one of the 15 prims, so when you right clicked to edit and looked in the contents, seeing no script, just means that you were not editing the correct one of the 15. So finding the script may have been a egg hunt in itself I'm glad you were able to get it to work. Lots of good helpful suggestions here too. BTW If the titler is Copy/Mod/Trans and you are still curious, send me a copy inworld and I will be more than happy to take a look and let you know what other functions/commands it has in it's feature set. --Trevor Langdon

Trevor, I checked it out again and it is not 15 prims, it's 1 prim. I do not know why but sometimes I "see" things in SL- for example - the object is copy, then I see it is no copy, then it's copy again. Something like that happened with the prims number, I'm sure the number was 15, strange...That's way I check things several times to make sure I get it right. I sent you a copy of the Titler  . BTW is there any way to make this title a clickable link? Here's a copy of the script I found in the Content folder: integer CommandIs(string msg,string cmd) { return llSubStringIndex(msg,cmd) == 0; } ParseAndIssueCommand(string cmd) { if (CommandIs(cmd,"title"  ) { string name = llGetSubString(cmd,6,-1); if (name == "title"  llSetText("",<0,1,0>,1.0); else llSetText(name,<0,1,0>,1.0); } } default { state_entry() { llListen(0,"",llGetOwner(),""  ; } on_rez(integer start_param) { llResetScript(); } listen(integer channel, string name, key id, string msg) { ParseAndIssueCommand(msg); } }

From: Mia Lian BTW is there any way to make this title a clickable link? Not exactly. You could make the object invisible (find a copy of the "totally clear" texture and apply that to it), and push it up to hover about where the text goes, and put a "touch_start()" handler in the object. What would you want it to do when clicked on? And, clicked on by anyone, or just the wearer?

Hi AWM Mars, I received one Title maker only - from Nina, did you really sent me something in-world? I checked my inventory and found 2 Flip titles, 2 Title makers (one of these is Nina's) and the Adjustable Title we are talking about so I have enough of these but if you want you can send me yours too . Learjeff, thank you very much for answering my question about making this text a link. I'd like this link to be clickable by anyone and to work as a notecard/landmark giver, I do not know if this is possible but if it is, it would be great for advertising. Your info is far too complicated for me but I'll keep it for a future reference as I hope in the future I'll have much better skills than I have now.

Oh, it would be great if a click on that link can open a a website page too but probably it's too difficult if at all possible to do.

OK, i gave you a simple device ingame that might work out. There's a notecard in it, "bubblehead test". Delete that, and put any notecards or landmarks in it you want it to give out. Have fun! Here's the script, in case anyone is interested: // Give object's notecards and landmarks when touched // // Put this script in any object. // Set the object's description to the name of the folder you want the // where you want the items to be placed in the recipient's inventory. // If the description is empty, each item will be given individually // (Best for notecards you want shown immediately.) // When touched, the object will give its contents to the toucher. // Objects and notecards must have copy/xfer permission for YOU (though not // necessarily the next owner).
