Do new, and shocking developments, cause you to lose sight of good manners and common sense in say and do things that are gross overreactions?

Ok, I never react to things in SL... UNTIL THIS FRIGGIN BLASPHEMOUS THREAD. It just bends my willy that people have the nerve to post in these great forums on subjects such as this. I WILL not tolerate this any longer!
...

Do other player's frustrations over Linden condoned circumvention of the permissions system cause you to assume a patronising and haughty posture toward those voicing concern? I think that you've sort of shot your own argument in the foot by labeling this development as "shocking". So yes, by all means, mock people for being shocked at the development!

Coming home and finding my girlfriend screwing the landlord is shocking. Setting her cat on fire is overreacting.

I do however question their tendency to rush off to loud and hasty statements and actions and feel it should be pointed out to them when they show up with pitchforks and torches.

I would not set her cat on fire because it is a poor innocent kitty. However, I would not be above setting fire to her clothes, and only heartless bastards would fault me for that.

Setting her cat on fire is overreacting. Yes, because I see cats on fire everywhere! Hyperbolic analogies for the win! As far as your girlfriend banging the landlord goes, I suppose that's all your fault for not providing her a proper house instead of renting. What it boils down to is that if you don't care for the reactions, you don't have to read them. But then you would lose out on your knee slapping entertainment for the day! Getting off on mocking other people's distress is a pathology, whether or not their distress is well placed. Have fun with that!

People are overreacting because they have a very large emotional (and in many cases financial) investment in their SL business, and it's pretty easy to understand that.
I only call it overreacting because so many people are reacting more out of fear than from fact. Yes, it's possible to copy the physical objects and textures. Can this thing do more? I don't know. Has it already destroyed existing business? I doubt it. Yet. Are people already closing up shop without seeing the impact? It seems so.
I do hope that those people closing up shop have not, when all is said and done, done their own businesses more harm than CopyBot would have.
By all means worry, rail, shout it from the mountain top. But please do try to do so without causing yourself just as much damage as this stupid bot.

That was months ago. They're all still here.

I personally am not upset so much because people may lose some money over this, or some may close shop. I am more so dismayed at LL's reaction. This is just another really poorly thought out position to take. The latest in a string of really poorly thought out decisions. This is the only MMOE or MMOG that I have been a part of where the developer has reacted in such a devil may care manner to a duping threat.
People will counter with "well it's gonna happen anyway!" Yes, it will, as it does in all games and "platforms", but that doesn't mean the developer should shrug it off, let alone become involved with the group that is doing the reverse engineering. Their position is so totally counter to the industry norm, it really leaves me scratching my head.
Since we're using over the top analogies here, maybe we should just repeal speed limit laws because some people are going to speed anyway. Plus, it might help the police pinpoint the trouble spots!

My RL job does not afford me the luxury of over reacting and a knee jerk reaction and therefore i find im unable to act in this manner. I always use 3 little words when faced with a situation however bad it may seem at first glance and they are, Discipline, thourght and control and after putting these 3 little words into play, i then react to what needs dealing with Saves the blood pressure hitting the roof everytime
