Is it just me or has the lag on most mainland locations got dramatically worse over the past few weeks. I've been hopping about from one place to another looking at everything from boats to trees to buildings and the lag in some places was truly awful. There were a couple of times when I found I had to teleport home for a break just because the delays were so frustrating. Oddly enough it did seem to improve when I flew rather than walked..but not much.

If it is just me..can anyone suggest a few lag reducing fixes. I've currently got my draw distance down at 288, my bandwidth at 500 and the cache's at 1000.

Thanks in advance, Perre

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

lot of lag, lots of freezing... even at my home which isn't on the mainland. When I go to the mainland, its like walking in quicksand. :(

On my home sim (main land) lag is really rare.

Only on very crowded places (as the welcome area) lag is bad (mainland or private makes no difference here).

Please consider that there can be more reason for lag then SL itself. Having said that, SL did have lately some issues.

lotsa freezing and why,, gambling, it is still in SL each time you make a purchuse it's a gamble if your going to get back home with it in your inventory or not,,,,,, still.

I use a draw distance of 0 and a guide dog. No lag so far!

I rarely lag unless there are a ton of avs around me. However, these last few days, my home sim is freezing constantly (this is an island, not mainland) and sometimes, my FPS drops to 1.5 :O Not to mention ghosted prims, ghosted AVs and a Ruth army everywhere!

Yes i have been having lag so bad that i find it best to just stand around doing nothing. If i try to move it's like there is no gravity and I'm wading through a pool of rubber tires.

Bad lag yesterday, even at home on a private island where there were nearly no residents on any of the 4 regions covered by the sim. Moving to a rather busy place, the response was about the same. This makes it seem like a client side issue on my part, but my friends reported the same symptoms.

We were seeing slow and jerky response to movement (impossible to move just a pace or two), which means low physics frame rate (I believe). Also slow response to mere camera controls, which usually means low client drawing frame rate.

I had my draw distance to 64, since I have no guide dog! ( ;) )

Also, chat would occasionally lag by 30 seconds or more, including plenty of re-ordering.

This doesn't seem like it would be caused by inventory-related issues (servers querying the main database). However, complex systems tend to be like a house of cards, where it's hard to tell just which cards will fall when you pull one, so perhaps the blog entry above is the root cause. It just doesn't *seem* like it to me, a designer & implementor of data communications software for decades.

One thing I found to help immensely with performance is when you go to preferences -> adv. graphics -> card memory. There, reduce the setting to a lower one. Say, your card has 128 mb of video RAM, set it to 64 MB. A bit of the details will get lost, but in return, SL will not power up your card to the max if it thinks you have less video RAM and it will run much more smoothly.

This is a quote from Novis Dyrssen's reply in the thread "Lag? Or what is this?" by Trout Recreant.

If you're having lag problems give this a try because it just tranformed SL for me..seriously impressive fix!! :D
