Hi Barrowness :)
For me, the map is useful for figuring out the geography of the sims, for example I found an exotic forest/caves network in one PI sim and called up the map to see just how far it went in each direction and how many sims were attached.

It's useful for close up navigation for things like working out how your land plot relates to large structures or coastline etc.

You can click on the map and set a teleport point before finding out the name of a place and it's very useful for seeing how the roads and waterways relate.

It show's you concentrations of population. There was a sim that was full and I just wanted to look so I used the map to pick a teleport point in the next sim, went there and used my remote camera.

Lots of uses really :) I love maps IRL too

The map is very handy for lots of reasons, you can see what other businesses advertise in your sim or nearby, you can see if any events are scheduled that may cause you sim performance issues at a specific time, you can see what land around you is for sale, you can use the map to escape quickly from griefers, to find interesting looking structures (at least interesting from above), to see how may people are in your sim, to see where the closest coast is if you fancy a paddle in the water....

I use the map when shopping for land.

Turn on land sales and it will show all the land that is for sale. Then you can see the geography o fthe land and if its in an area youlike....also, it will show you what sims to stay away from if you see large gatherings of poeple (large groups mean lag and poor performance)

Exploring sl with the map is always fun too. I will follow the roads or coasts and look for interesting builds.

I find the map is very valuable in purchasing land because the search for land tools suck in sl. For example, if you want a good deal on an ocean side plot, simply use the map to follow the coast and check out land sale pricing as you go. When you find an interesting plot, just click it and teleport. Its much better than trying to find specific types of land in the search.

I keep the small mini-map in the corner of my screen all the time. I like knowing where I am and how many people are around me.

map is also good if your friends have selected to let you see them on the map. It gives you a good idea of how far away they are, and ALSO, if the teleport system is wonky, sometimes you can map your friends and teleport to them that way. Tho keep in mind that you should IM them first and check that they aren't in the middle of something private!!

I use the map while sitting in my secret hideaway in a volcano ( not telling the location ! ) to plot my evil evil plan to take over the entire grid .

One day soon i will fill the waters with man eating shark's with lazers and blow up 10 sims every hour if i don't get .....One million Linden dollers MHUAHAAHAHAHhahahahah ! :D

The maps great for just hopping around and exploring .... look off mainland and zoom in closer ... loads of little sims with some very intresting stuff and some realy nice people .... who one day i will kill ;)
