Window on separate monitor?

Hello,

I currently run SL on a computer with two monitors.

Does anyone know if I can get some of my SL windows to show up on the second monitor? For example, I'd like to put my chat, IM, and inventory windows on the second monitor so they don't clutter up the SL view.

Thanks,

Doug

Not currently and probably not likely in the near future because the windows are all part of the rendered scene I believe. (Due to the fact that opening a window severely slows down the FR which should nto happen at all if they were actually seperate pop-up windows on top and not part of the rendering pipeline)

But as a weak workaround you can open your SL window to span part of the second monitor and move all your windows over there.

Be warned that there was a bug that seriously messed up textures on avatars (no skin just an eerie void) when SL was run in the second monitor of a two monitor display. I had it happen to me and it was not pretty, nor particulrly easy to get corrected. I am not sure if this is fixed so if your skin vanishes this is likely the cause of your trouble.

would be nice tho to keep Chat and IM's on another monitor and keep the 'viewer' clean for viewing ;)

Try this.

Run the monitors in "Span" mode where windows thinks it's one large monitor.
Then maximize or stretch SL to span both monitors.

Edit: It works and it's soo cool. :)

The only problem is that you have to leave the window a little off center so that your AV is not chopped in half.

This is a feature of the nivida control panel where the video card sends half of the scan line to one monitor and then the rest of the same scan line to the next monitor.

Both monitors have to be the same size and use the same resolution and refresh rate.

This feature has been requested in the past, and I believe their reason for filing it into the round bin was that it would require multiple UI code bases to be maintained - One for Windows, one for Mac, and probably one for Linux. Seems a simple enough feature from our perspective, but on the development side it would create some rather significant complexities in maintaining source code. Even simple UI related bug fixes would become granular, in that they would often have to be individually coded for each OS. In short, adding such a welcomed feature would hugely complicate the entire development process.

I thought this was open source? Maybe someone will make a new UI. In WoW, the community has made many many UI mods for anyone to use and they work across all platforms. I would like a UI, for instance, that lets me keep IM chatter OUT of my regular chat.

I'm considering a new computer and one I have my eye on has twin 7600GT cards so I was actually thinking of asking the same question!

.. but, on reflection of quote above, I realise I'm guilty quite often of concentrating on what's happening between the windows so much I miss a new message .. and that's actually in the window I'm trying to ignore .. what's it going to be like if the window is on a different monitor? LOL

A question of my own: does the second card if I was to use only one monitor, speed up the processing over a single card?
TIA
